Unhappy Unmatched file????
I own a Ricoh RDC 6000 camera and I have got a problem at the moment with the Smart media card.

I took lots of photos of my sons birthday treat which was a weekend away, visiting various locations and events. These pictures are obviously precious memories only to find that my camera has started to play up. I got the message "unmatched file error" when I was trying to view the pictures on the display screen of the camera. Everything was fine previous to me getting this message, now the camera locks up when I try to view the pics on the card and I have to actually take out the battery to turn the camera off.

On returning home I connected the camera to my computer and tried to retrieve the pictures that way..........the pictures are there but on the first 2 I get the message "premature end of jpeg file" I click ok then the rest of the pics are retrieved but when I try to view them on the computer there are no pics to view although the files are there.

Please help! Is there anyway I can retrieve and view these pics?

I have heard about different programmes that recover lost/deleted photos but they all seem to need a card reader. My camera is connected to the computer via a usb cable, is there any programme that will recover from usb connection?

Regards Anais

Do you have a spare memory card to try in the camera to see if the camera is functioning properly? I searched around and all the programs I could find to get data from corrupt digital media you had to buy and they required a card reader but card readers are what $20 or so now. One program that seemed nice to me was photo recovery
On all the demos for these programs you can only see the images and you need to actually buy the program to recover them. I think a friend recently went through something similar so I will e-mail and ask how he got the pictures off the card.

There are others with your problem from that camera according to Google.

Seems that switching the camera off before it has finished saving to the card can cause the corruption on the card.

If the photos are recoverable at all, I would expect its only going to be via a card reader and not direct from the camera. Not much is available in the way of information on Google, but what is does not make good reading.

Search using "unmatched file error" (leave quotes in)

I would also try a card reader.

Thank you all for your replies.

acraftylady - yes I have a spare memory card which I have used over the weekend and all my pics where ok except one which again had unmatched file against it. The camera seems to be functioning ok otherwise, but to be honest I have never liked this camera since I purchased it a couple of years ago. I dont really use it that much but, to be honest with you, I dont really know how to use it.......lol. When searching google I am comming up with all kinds of bad reviews on this particular model So I am looking to trade it in for a new model........any recommendations will be greatly appreciated as I dont have a clue what to buy. Looks like I will have to invest in a card reader to retrieve my pics though and I will be interested to hear how your friend retreived his pics please.

Kiwiguy - I have already been to the links you suggested but thanks for your help anyway.

hewee - I am going to purchase a card reader as I think this is my only option.........then Im getting rid of this camera and purchasing a new one.

Look at the camera's here. http://www.imaging-resource.com/DIGCAM01.HTM

If you don't see a review on a camera then I would not get it.
You find reviews here on lots of camera's.

A card reader should help if it is your camera that is keeping you from getting to your images.
