No display in LCD screen of Aiptek Pocket DV2
Hello, I'm new to the forum and I hope I am in the right place and posting the proper question for it.

I recently purchased a used Aiptek Pocket DV2 "mini-cam" digital video camera. It is not a high-end technology device, but it suits my purposes for taking videos. It has worked just fine, no problems.

The other night I connected the camera to its USB cable to plug into my laptop (plugged cable into a hub) to view a video. I set it down and turned around to do something just for a minute (honest!) and when I turned back and picked up the camera, it was very hot. I slid open the battery cover and found that the batteries (2 AA Energizer alkaline) were red hot. I popped them out and put in my freshly recharged NIMH batteries. When I powered the camera on, I found that I was not getting an image in the LCD screen. I decided to let it rest a few hours, but when I powered it on later, same thing: LCD screen was blank.

The camera still takes videos (also will take still shots) just as usual, but I can't use the LCD screen to see what I'm shooting. There's viewfinder which I can use, but I am mystified about what happened to my LCD display.

Any suggestions or theories will be greatly appreciated.

The "hot" batteries indicate a MAJOR drain had occurred, and this would likely be a failure within the camera electronics. As part does not now work, that seems to confirm that.

These are not "user serviceable" devices and I would recommend getiing it looked at by the service agent. Is it still under warranty?

Aiptek Pocket DV2 display problem
Unfortunately the camera is not under warranty. I live in a small town and options for having it repaired are practically nonexistent. I imagine I'll have to go to Atlanta. I'm not prepared to spend a great deal on this thing. It didn't cost me that much to begin with.

I do not normally use regular alkaline batteries in the camera; I'd been out without my big case and had just grabbed some regular AA's to take along in case the ones in the camera died.

Thanks for the reply.
