Corrupted Images
I opened a cd I burned a while back when getting rid of an old computer. The images cannot be opened. The message I get is "The format is invalid or not supported" I have tried other softwares and computers to open these images but to no avail. When I check the properties of the images there is a discrepency. Under the General tab it says "Type of File: JPEG Image". But under the Information tab it says "Format: BMP Windows Bitmap". Can I fix this or do I loose these images.

Thanks

Do you know if they were readable when first burnt?

Can you give a bit more detail about programs you have tried to open them with.

What brand cd, how old and how was it stored?

I do not know if they were readable when I first burned them. There are many directories with many pictures on this cd. It seems only 2 directories have problems.
As for type of cd Memorex cd-rw 1x-4x. Nothing special about how it was stored, jewel case in my desk drawer. Age 2 -3 years maybe? If it will help attached is one of the pictures.
Well it the site will not allow me to uplaod it. It claims it is not a valid format.

CD-RW are a flakey medium to use at the best of times, and I would never consider using any RW medium for long term storage (or even short term where reliability was needed).

Its possible that the write was corrupted at the time it was made, which eliminates degredation over time. I am sure they could be largely recovered by data recovery companies, but the cost could be high.

CD check I just came across this free utility today. Maybe someone here can tell you if it would work for your problem.

I have used CD check and it worked great in telling me I had a bad CD or bad files on the CD. I had a older version then so did not try to fix anything with it.

Can you copy them to your hard drive?

If so rename some of the files by adding to the file name .bmp or .jpg to see what happens.

Can you if they are within the file size limit to attach them here. Zip a image up and then attach it here.

I will see if I can do anything.
