Effect of batteries on memory cards?
I keep my digital camera in an old Tamron lens cylindrical carry case which offers good protection, but there is no room for anything else. I also have a small zipped case which can attach to the case strap.
My question is - will carrying spare NiMH recharged batteries in that small case along with used or unused memory cards have any bad effect on the cards?
Thanks

No problem apart from any unusual physical one of actual mechanical damage (or damage from leaking batteries but thats rare these days).

I carry spare batteries in an empty tin that ALTOIDS (little peppermint candies) came in- in my pocketbook.

That's a good question about the memory cards, even though I don't carry them together, and it's good to have an answer.

I think MAGNETS might damage a memory card?

Maybe?

I took one of those padded yellow envelopes (with tiny bubble, bubble wrap inside) and cut the bottom corners off, bit enough to staple the open side, leaving a top part open. The right size to slip a memory card in. Like a little yellow (padded) envelope. I use this to carry memory cards in.

In my pocketbook, my jacket pocket, on my computer table, etc.

Starchild: There may be a problem with carrying batteries in a metal container. If both the battery terminals can possibly touch metal at the same time, they will discharge. Solution--place a strip of thick cardboard at each end of the batteries.

Magnets will damage anything like that, if strong enough. Its highly unlikely that you would ever come in contact with one that had enough Gauss field strength outside a lab however.

Remember many AA or AAA batteries these days have the outer casing insulated by the wrapper but at (+) potential, its the (-) bottom of the battery that is isolated, so it only needs the outer insulating wrapper to become damaged and a short circuit between the bottom and the outer is quite possible when carried in a metal container.

Okay, I didn't think of that. They are my old rechargeables anyway (I have old ones, new ones and "in the middle" ones)

There's a paper inside the tin container, from when the candy was in it.

I left it in because it smells good.

I keep finding new things to add to my "learn something new everday" list.

Most of the time I just learn it and never get to write it down.

I took my Altoids tin and put some clear package tape over the bottom and sides of it.

Just to be safe.
