Nikon Cool Pix 3500 not working ...
Hello all ... hopefully there is someone out here that can help ...

I've had my Nikon Coolpix 3500 digital camera for a year and a half, and about 3 months ago it stopped working. I haven't had time to investigate until today, however I've spent the last several hours on-line looking for a solution, to no avail.

The removable/rechargable battery is fully charged, but the camera itself will not turn on. I am unable to take pictures and unable to view pictures already on the camera. The camera makes no noise.

Thinking that this could be a problem with the rechargable battery itself, I recovered my backup battery, charged it fully, then tried to start up the camera. Same thing - nada.

The Nikon product guide (as well as other independent websites) soley give help for users that cannot download their pictures to their computer ... I had no problem downloading my pics when the camera was working.

The camera has been sitting in a box at room temperature with no exposure to moisture for the past three months.

So ... what could be the cause of this?

I'm wondering if there might be a backup battery inside the camera that could have died? Where would it be?

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks much.

Do you have an electrical plug for it you could try? I would write to Nikon and see what they have to say. It sounds like it has died and needs to be repaired. You have not had it that long and if it has not been dropped I would complain to Nikon about this, myslef I would have done it as soon as it stopped working.

I don’t think there are any common digital cameras with batteries other than the main battery. My guess is that they use some sort of EEPROM chip to keep the settings.

Odd you are getting nothing rather than an error message. Look down in the battery compartment and see if any of the connectors are bent. You might gently try to clean them with a pencil eraser, but make sure to move the eraser only in the direction they bend against the battery – not sideways.

My best guess is that you are going to need service.
