Coloring B&W
I've only seen one program @ $40 that looked like it was feasible. I don't want to spend all my time trying to trace outlines ( as in PSP 8, which works if time is no constraint ). I'd like to identify flesh, sky, grass, ocean, sand etc and select colors to be put in within the boundaries. I also don't want to spend $600.

Easily convert your Black & White photographs into life-like color - with the ultimate photo colorization software - Easy DIY PC Windows shareware.

http://www.blackmagic-color.com
or
http://www.black-and-white-to-color.com/

A table would make it more easy to use.

Also the paid version of B&W does more.

I think he/she was referring to only changing parts of a photo to B&W not the entire image.

Yea your right. This is for adding color to B&W images. Hard to use without a tablet but it does a nice job.

Coloring B&W pix
Black Magic is the only software I've seen that isn't priced for pros. I haven't tried it yet. I like to use a few at a time to compare. To acraftlady, how many hundred pix have you done to people's faces? And do you have any recollection of how long they all took? I have the Pablo tablet but found it didn't do much for correcting color pix, which is a somewhat different problem

photoelements may be a good option - its a subset of photoshop - but i dont know how much it is in states however a lot of printers and scanners provide this software free with the product

I have only done a few people and the ones I did I followed that tut and it worked just like the instructions and I found it to be very easy for me. If you are going to be coloring hundreds then I guess you would want something different. I have photoshop elements and I fight with using it because I am such a dummy at these programs but when I found that tut for PSP 8 it just came easier for me.
