Compressing all the images into one folder shouldn't harm the quality of the images but you may not gain as much space as you think depending on the file format. For instance jpegs does gain much from zipping.

How many pic's do you need to save? You can copy 2 - 3, 400 on an average cd depending on the size of the files.

I would not zip or compress the images at all.

Just burn them to a cd as a "Data CD" and it will keep everything the same way it is now on your hard drive.

I think Flyeater left the n’t off the end of does. JPG files are already compressed and zipping them doesn’t make them any smaller. The same is true for MP3 files.

If you have the images in an uncompressed format like TIF, BMP etc, zipping them does not lose quality.
