Converting files from Movie Maker to mpeg?
Hello

I have some clips saved as windows movie maker 1.1 files that i need to put in a powerpoint presentation but pp will only insert mpeg files.
I had to edit them in movie maker first because they need trimming but now need to use in powerpoint.

I have tried saving the files as xxx.mpeg in movie maker but when i try to insert them in powerpoint it says "Powerpoint couldnt insert a movie from the selected file"

Is it possible or am I fighting a losing battle trying to do this?!

Thanks
Jo

Not familiar with the Movie Maker, but this free app will convert most video files to mpeg:

TMPGEnc

Here's another free one, but it doesn't say what format it converts into:

Downloaded the program ok - thank you - but the files are not recognised as 'general' movie files, they are 'windows movie maker project' files and the program cannot open that type of file.
Any advise on where I can go from here?

Thanks again

You need to work with the original AVI files---they should be there somewhere--do a search. T

Once you complete a project and save the final result, the file type for the video will be .wmv. I just used TMPEnc to convert a .wmv to a .mpg and it worked perfectly. The resulting file was 4 times larger, but you can make it smaller by using some of the many codec/compression options that TMPEnc affords. Reducing the sound quality, in particular, can usually be done without any noticeable loss, depending on whether it is music or voice (music experiences more noticeable loss from compression).

When opening the .wmv file with TMPEnc, you need to change the file type in the scroll-down box to "All Files" for the .wmv's to appear.

The project files themselves are saved in a proprietary format that can't be opened by anything except Movie Maker.

If you want quality--then dont convert from wmv to mpeg--convert from avi to mpeg--the file will be bigger but the quality will be much better.

Ok, thank you, I think perhaps the problem is different to my original description then. The files I am trying to open are not the original ones (the avi, mpeg files), these are edited movie files. I have had to trim half a dozen movie clips for an induction film I am putting together, and it is the edited ones I need to put into a presentation.
Is there any software where I could trim the clips down, save them, then insert into Powerpoint as the edited clip?
The software I have to use at the moment is Windows Movie Maker 1.1 (no upgrade allowed), Powerpoint and Sony Imagemixer 1.5.

Thank you
Jo
