Which camera is best for action
I have a Nikon coolpix 4300 it is a wonderful camera but it appears to be lousy on moving objects. Maybe it's me or the camera I'm not sure.
If I move at all the pictures are not clear. it's new and I'm still getting used to it. But it seemed to me I had more leeway with a slr. Does any one have a suggestion on a different camera...

You really want something with "shutter priority" and a fast shutter speed. You don't want any shutter lag and an image stabiliser can be handy.
Ultimatley one of the D series slr's if budget is not an issue.

The only one I know if is Nikon 8800 that has image stabilser.
That is a large camera and it would be hard to wear on my belt
to take pictures while riding my horse for trainings and deployments.

When I bought the coolpix I guess all I thought of that is was small and handy to use one handed.

I found this camera. if you understand cameras will this one be more suitable? Its small and I can use on the horse...but this camera may be outdated.

Taking pictures while riding a horse is always going to be a bit of a challange. The C750 is going to better than what you have as it has shutter priority, but you are asking a lot of a camera. It has a 10 optical zoom but using it at 10 times is going to mean standing still and having a tri-pod or at least finding something to rest against.

Look here Debra. http://www.imaging-resource.com/

Nikon Coolpix 4300 Digital Camera

http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/CP4300/C43A.HTM

I have the Nikon Coolpix 3100 and the camera is some what the same but I see the bottons are not the same and the menu is not either.
But I took picture of cars going down the road that came out great but I was stopped at a light. I also was driving down the road at 45 MPH and too some that came out great. But your moving up and down on a horse. Maybe you need to get the faster speed of action shots. Also on mine the memory card that came with it was a lot slower then the bigger card I got. And there are even faster memory cards out now.

But if yours is like mine you have a great booklet to read and also a CD you can watch that shows you everything.

If you can do with 3.2mp this camera may be the one you are looking for. It has received great reviews for it's ability to stabilize the image. It also sports a 10x optical zoom. One negative from your perspective would be it's size. Worth taking a look at though. Check it out......... http://www.steves-digicams.com/2004_reviews/s1is.html

Now I like that camera Wimpy suggest except 3-Megapixel is not enough. Now if I can have that size and 4 and up megapixal rating I would be happy.

Most of the time Im standing still on the horse and shooting. Occasionaly I am walking. Its not so much me as it the moving object. I didn't take this pic but out of all the picture most of them are blurry. I have had this problem from the beginning.

I did some research on cameras but the web site hewee has is really cool. I found it by accident last night before hewee mentioned it. I wish I had it before I bought the camera. It has a wizard that ask you questions. The cameras with what I need pop up at the end. But I really didnt know what I needed till now.

Maybe you also just got a bad camera debra. Because if your still and the object you taking is moving it should look better then that picture you posted.

Here are two I took. I used Nikon browse to copy and resize the images and used the quality setting of Good to keep the file size down and make it bigger o I could post here. They were taken in the Scene Mode: Sports. The one of KFC i was driving down the road at I guess 45 MPH ot that is the limit on that road and the other I was stopped at the light. Your note on the KFC that the road is not clear but hey I was moving fast but the rest came in ok and I bet would of been better if I was not moving.

Yea that wizard there at the site is new. They used to list them by types of use that I liked. I think that was better because you could see all the camera list and what was good for what type of use. I hope it's there some place still. I used that because it really help if you find the camera you like and it shows up under all the types of use then you know it's a good all around use camera.

I'm using Fujifilm Finepix S3000,which have a build-in sport function.
I will admit that it surprized me greatly with moving shot's-depending on light & using the flash gave me great result's.
I will further suggest if you are willing to spend a bitt more, to go with the S5000 or to the profesional side the S7000.
Besides doing a good job,you will fing it to be a very good looking & comfortable to use digital camera.
Good luck hunting.

Hi puter hater...

looking at the link that hewee provided you should be able to get far better images than the one you posted...with a little practice... and reading of the manual...

hewee what mode did you shoot those pictures in?

Now not all pictures are bad like the other one I posted . But most moving pictures do have issues. Since most pictures are on the quick point and shoot is very important. That is one of the things I liked about 4300 lots of modes. But one mode it doesn't have is the sports mode. I think that is the missing mode I need along with "shutter priority" and a fast shutter speed along with image stabilizer .
I guess I will go back to the book and see if I can make this work till I can get a better camera

I was just looking at a video I shot with this camera. I was riding my horse at a walk following other horses. The picutres are clear as a bell. Same arena same day just using video instead of stills. Here I moving the camera is going with the horse and the pictures are clear..........

It says Sports. On the dial on top of mine it shows a guy that looks like he is running. Then you have other options on the lcd menu.
Look at the CD's that came with yours and if is like mine you have I think 3 CD's. One for the nikon software, one that has the booklet in pdf format and other with a moving that shows you everything. I think you need the flash player to watch it.
Now I had trouble taking pictures that were taken where it was dark because after I clicked on what I wanted it takes a long time and I was moving and then once I checked I had picture of my feet. Big lag time. But the faster memory should help with that too.

i have seen replies on it... but it is shutter, and also lighting... which entangle each other

notice hewees clear shots are alot brighter/crisper - better lighting cinditions. your pic, even the guy behind the horse who is barely moving is blur, almost rays coming from above the horse... so that would be the longer shutter, eg 1/2sec. try taking a shot with the sun behind you, and the sun upon the object, and take different shots of it. a)one still, b)one 'panning' by the object, and c)one riding by it... i think youll have a better outcome with the pictures. turn on the flash... that should automatically adjust proper shutter... unless predetermined shutter time

i use the OlympusC720, and if i put it on the auto setting, and its a little too dark, >take the pic... pretty much nothing but blur. hope i helped~!

Yep the picture I took that were bad was because it was dark and there is a long lag time so if you take the picture the camera is still busy doing what ever so if you move it shows up.

I took the book with me to work last night. I settled in at my desk whipped out the book and it was in spanish I dont' read spanish.... I can't find my book bummer....

I used flash and not with flash on that particular day. Flash really didn't help. When I shot the video no flash was in involved it looks very good. If I knew how to shorten the video I would post a link to it. But its to long to post other wise
