Question Pictures Automatically Assigned to a Software
Using Windows XP

When I load/import any picture into my computer, such as a jpeg, it is immediately changed to Microsoft Picture It!, a software on my computer. I don't want the computer to do this. To remedy this, I was told to right click on the Microsoft Picture It! icon for any picture, then click on Open With and make the change.

This does not really solve the problem because after clicking on Open With, it simply lists the various programs available to open the picture. I want the picture to be left as is, i.e., if it comes in as funny clown.jpeg, I want it to remain as funny clown.jpeg. The list after Open With does not give a option to leave the picture as is.

Thanks

When you click open with, click on "choose program" then choose your preferred program and then check the box that says "always use the selected program to open this kind of file."

You will need to select the programme that used to open the pics before Picture it which was probably 'Image Preview'. If it is not in the first list of programme options then you click 'choose programme' as described above to find it. Remember to check the box described above too.

One or your “Open With” choices should be your “Windows Picture and Fax Viewer” I think that will give you a normal Windows icon.

I’m curious what change is being made to the file. You often get an icon of the program it is defaulted to open in, but that doesn’t change the file in any way.
