Question Printing an attachment
My son e-mailed me 3 attachments in same e-mail. It failed. He left college for 2 weeks with the Army Reserves so he can't send again. I was able to go to his hotmail from my computer and retrieve them from his mailbox, then I downloaded the attachments one at a time. Downloading to my desktop is the only place they would go so I could open them. (he had enlarged them quite a bit before e-mailing) I can click on them and see them on the screen, but the problem I have now is I can't them to print out. I have tried everything. Printer works fine, so that isn't the problem. In the lower box---It gets to the point where it shows you putting the paper in and shows how much ink, etc. then doesn't print anything. This is papers that I need to finish filling out and then fax to the Reserves about his tuition for college ASAP. Is there any way it can be done? I have Windows 98, printer is a Epson 640. I originally wanted tried put in a place where I can retrieve it from my Adobe so I could resize, but couldn't do that.

You should be able to navigate to your desktop in your Adobe application. I have had XP for a while and don’t remember exactly where it is on Win98 – but I know you can navigate there.

If you want your photos in a normal folder it is easy to move them there. If nothing else you can right click on them on the desktop, Send To>My Documents

You might want to make a folder just for photos directly on your C drive:
Start>Programs>Windows Explorer. File>New>Folder. The “New Folder” will be highlighted – that means if you start typing it will overwrite. Just type “Photos”. If you screw up and lose the highlighting you can right click on the folder and select “Rename” and it will be highlighted again.

Once you have someplace to put them, minimize Windows Explorer (the minus box in the upper right corner). Hold the CTRL key while you highlight all of them on the desktop. Right click on one of the highlighted images and select “Copy”. Click on Windows Explorer down on the taskbar, Right click on your “Photos” folder and select “Paste” The photos will copy to the folder. You can delete them from the desktop after you are sure they are in the folder.

In the future use the “Save in” box in the download dialog to send them to the Photos folder rather than the desktop.

In response to the answers I received--I have tried ALL of the above. I have 3 different photo folders. The reason it is on my desktop, is that it wouldn't allow me to save it anywhere else, I believe because the attachments were so large, but they did come .jpg. Everyway I did it, it would say file not found, or a problem with parsing. I tried to copy from desktop ot it won't let me do that either. Honest, that is the only way I could save, which is fine in it self, but NOW I can't print them out.

Have you tried opening and printing them in a different application?
Try Irfanview. It's free and will allow you to resize as you desire.

Right click on one of them on the desktop and check the properties and see what the size is in Mb. I’m suspicious you just got a shortcut or something. If they are JPGs they should work the same way on the desktop as they do anywhere else. I just put a JPG on my desktop and the properties showed the same size as it was in the folder.

I was also able to navigate to it and open it in both Adobe Photoshop and Irfanview. And just clicking on the desktop icon for the JPG opened it in my default viewer – Irfanview in this case.

When you select a JPG from a normal folder what application does it open in? You might check one to make sure it isn’t associated with a program that isn’t working.

What application are you trying to print from? You must have the image open in something or you can’t print it. Might the application you have it open in allow you to “Save as” to a folder?

There might be a problem downloading from Hotmail. I don’t have it or I would put a large image up and try downloading. I have downloaded full sized 8Mp images to folders from Yahoo mail, so it must be something odd in Hotmail.

I am happy to report that the information about Irfanview was what I needed. I downloaded the program and was able to resize and print the documents that I need to fax to the reserves for my son. The program is the greatest. Thanks a lot
