Solved: Cropping Photos
What is the best way to crop photos is PS Elements or other software and keep the height and width ratio correct so that the print (4x6, 8x10 etc) comes out with the correct proportions?

Usually there is a tick box that states "maintain aspect ratio" when you select crop.
I cannot comment on PS Elements as I don't have it.

I think that the tick box that you mention is used for resizing, which does not crop. I know how to crop but don't know how to keep the side to side and top to bottom at the original ratio.

You did not mention what version of PSE. I am running PSE 3 & there is a new Preset Option menu located in the Tool Options bar that gives you several standard cropping sizes.

Sorry but I am not familair with earlier versions of PSE.

With Elements 2 on the crop options bar click on "Front Image". This maintains aspect ratio when cropping.

glad i read this thread

xgerryx is referring to using the crop tool on the main tool bar, and the 'front image' button on the main menu bar

(see pic, moved the front image section over to fit into the image)

never knew that before, will make it a lot easier

thanks!

Thanks for all the replies. Clicking the Front Image works just as I wanted. It keeps the proper ratio.
