Camera connection error
My son received a Camex 3-in-one digital camera for Christmas which looks like a lot of fun. Loaded the Arc Software, specifically PhotoImpressions, and had no problem with installation. However, when I try to download photos I get a message "Camera Connection Error". I am running Windows XP. Do you have any suggestions?

Read up on how to upload. It should say to plug it in before you turn the camera on and then you need to turn the camera off before you unplug the camera.

Camera Connection Error
Even if the camera is turned off before connecting it to the computer by USB, the camera is automatically turned on via the USB connection.

The booklet that came with the camera is very limited as far as troubleshooting is concerned. The camera came from Radio Shack and this seems to be a booklet that they put together. The software used is ArcSoft PhotoImpression 4.0.

OK but did you install any other software the was made for the camera?

Like on my Nikon it came with Nikon View. I had to install there software and as you install it it will tell you when to hook up the camera and then it will load the right drivers for the camera. If I did not do it as they said then it may not load the right drivers.
But I got the Nikon view software that you can use to upload and view all my image and edit them. Not much you can do with the edit part but still. Then it has lots of other things like email resizing etc you can do that is nice.
Also it came with ArcSoft Software Suite that had PanoramaMaker 3.0, PhotoImpression 4.0 and VideoImpression 1.7.

But I don't know if you can just upload to them till you install the drivers or software that the camera has that is made for your camera.
I mean the ArcSoft Software is just added 3rd party software that came with the camera.

The camera came with drivers, which I loaded first as directed in the user manual. Then I restarted as directed. Next I loaded the ArcSoft software, PhotoImpressions 4.0 and VideoImpression 1.6, which also came with the camera. Restarted. The instructions say not to connect the camera during the installation process, which I didn't. I'm definitely stumped. The computer is running XP Home Edition. I installed the drivers, software and camera on my computer which is running XP Professional, and it works! However, I still want to get it running on my son's computer. I have sent an email to Radio Shack customer service to see if they can get me an email or phone number for ArcSoft so I can see if they are having any unique problems with XP Home Edition. In the meantime, I am just out here looking for answers. I appreciate you help.

I don't have XP so really can't help but I thought you did not need to install driver on XP because it already has them.
Now you could get a memory card reader and it will show up as a hard drive. They are cheap and you can get a 6 in 1 card reader for about $20.00. Meaning it will read 6 types of memory cards.

You are right about XP. You should just be able to plug the camera in and the XP camera wizard will pop up and you just click next and they downlaod to the my pictures folder. I have only hooked my camera up once to XP and I am sure it worked that way just like when I use the card reader so no other software is required. If it doesn't pop up you should be able to go into my computer and find the driver letter for the camera when it's plugged in, click it and acess the pictures that way and just copy them some where. If the XP camera wizard won't autoplay then you might need to look at this link. Other people that have had autoplay on XP stop working said this fixed it.

Camera Connection Error
OK. I think I'll try uninstalling the driver and software provided with the camera and just try plugging the camera in. It's worth a try!
