Unhappy Digitrex 2100 lost driver really need help
I lost the cd that came from my digitrex cam. I tried downloading them from the net but they won't work. I tried contacting digitrex and had no avail. I am wondering if anyone can send me one.
Please help me out. I don't want to garbage my new camera.
I use windows xp if that helps you out.

I tried putting my computer back to win 98. The driver from the sight installed but still the computer did not see the camera. Now i am back to win xp after hours of setup.

Please help.

I see that you posted your problem in august 2004. I am hoping by now that you have it resolved. Is there any way you can help me get the driver for that cam. I too have it but cannot use mine currently as I lost the cd. I tried getting the driver online but it failed to work as well as contacting the company who only provide support to australia. Any way you can helP?

The only available driver appears to be here:
http://www.digitrex.net/Product-Deta...&CategoryID=15

Are you saying it does not work?
What version of Windows?

I am using windows xp. TOday I finally got it to install the hardware. Now I can see it in my device manager as well as windows explorer and it all says it's working fine.
So then windows Scanner and Camera Wizard tried to get the pictures. It gets them and shows me them but when it comes time to copy them to the hard drive for viewing it simply won't let me. Tells me to try again and you can try again forever but you get nowhere.
I have also tried other imaging software to acquire the pics. No luck.
Make any sense to you?

But why are you using imaging software to get the pics?? There is no need to even use the inbuilt XP application, its cleaner and more certain to use Windows Explorer.

In Windows Explorer, the phone should show up as a removeable drive.
Open that drive and any subsequent folders (usually in a folder DCIM or similar name) and all the .jpg files should be available to copy, then paste them in the directory of your choice on the hard drive.

Once you have them on the hard drive, in a place where you know exactly where they are, then you can open that folder in any imaging application of your choice. The transfer has been done and you can be sure of where they are.

Here is actually what I can see.
When the camera is turned on and connected to the computer it shows up in My Computer as a device that is working fine and well as in the hardware device manager. It shows no problem with it. When I look at Windows Explorer I can see it listed right under MY COMPUTER. But when you click on it you get nothing. The only place I can actually see my photos is in the XP Scanner and Camera Wizard which lets me see the photos but not copy them to the hard drive. Also, when the camera is unplugged from the computer and the computer is shut down it is like it doesn't keep the driver and I have to reinstall it again using the found new hardware wizard.
Any advice anyone has is appreciated. I am getting desperate and discouraged.

That's is a much better explanation of what is going on.

Plainly the camera is not made to conform with the normal expected Windows actions (see comments later)

Before expending a lot more time, it would be useful to plug it into another Windows XP PC and see if it behaves the same. At least that would point the blame at the camera or the PC. Otherwise you could end up digging a hole in the wrong place.

Looking at the details for that camera, I see that is does not support Mass Storage Class drivers for Windows - that may be where the problem lies? Why anyone would make a camera in that manner is beyond me. It is likely to be less than compatable on all hardware platforms I suspect. Even though its a low end fixed focus camera, to make it without Mass Storage compatability is - weird!

It takes a CF card apparently, so using a card and a Card Reader would be one way around it, as you never have to connect the camera then. Just need to make sure the photos are taken on the card and not the internal memory.

A lot more info, including the issues of connectivity and data transfer is here.

Actually it does give you the option of using a mass storage driver or WDM mode. I have tried both. About the card reader, I have never really heard of that. Can you explain? I do use a removable memory card for taking photos and I have 2 of those cards. Just a minute ago also I tried using windows explorer and it appeared to copy the pic to My Pictures. However the properties for them are showing Photo Suite Image yet they will not open up. I own the MGI photo suite program and it says it's not a valid picture file. I can see the photos just can't get them. It's frustrating.

Card readers are cheap, and plug into the USB on the computer. Many will read all types of cards, just make sure that you get one that takes CF cards, but most should.

It should totally eliminate the camera from the equation, and all files should be available to copy and paste using Windows Explorer.

Have you read the review I posted. It clearly suggests that its not a compatable MSD that it uses. That could be the problem.

But just get a card reader - you need no drivers for that under XP.

Kiwi guy... i read the post about it not being mass storage compliant however I do swear that the download screne gives you the option clearly stating Mass Storage or WDM mode. Something new just happened. I took out the memory card which contains some photos (I just bought the card last week). The camera actually let me download and look at the photos that were on the internal memory of the camera. YIPPPE! At least I could get those off. Just wouldn't let me get at the memory card(which is where my new ones are still located) Any ideas or thoughts on this. I really appreciate you following me on this. I am sorry to post so many replys. Feel free to email me if you want. I think you can do so through my public profile. If I get stuck I will definitly take your advice on the memory card reader. I didn't know about those and I am glad you told me. Thanks kiwi, you're awesome.

Arghh!
Okay, to recap. You can see it in my computer, but you can't activate it. When you turn the computer off the driver disappears.
Boy I'm glad its happening to you.
IF you look in device manager, devices by connection, and it shows a list if IRQ's, have you got any conflicts in this list?
What operating system are you running?
I found this information when I was tearing my hair out

DIGITREX DSC 1300 AND DSC 2100 DIGITAL CAMERAS.

NOTE: Customers who have WIN98, WINme, WIN2000

Please check previously installed scanner, printer or digital cameras. These operating systems have only one assigned TWAIN Driver.
Twain was originally launched in 1992 by leading industry vendors who
Recognized a need for a standard software
Protocol and applications programming interface (API) that regulates
Communication between software applications
And imaging devices (the source of data). TWAIN defines that standard. The three key elements in TWAIN are the Application software, the source Manager software and the data Source Software.

Un-install the previous Hardware which uses the TWAIN Driver and
Then Install the Digitrex to Acquire the Images from the Camera because the TWAIN Driver is the protocol used to Acquire images from either a Scanner, Camera or Printer.

I know this seems rude, but make sure you are activating the mass storage drive on the camera ( from memory, red light lights, then yellow light flashes a few times) BEFORE conecting it to the computer. This I also had as a source of conflict
Having said all that.
Delete all the software that you have installed that came with the camera.
If the camera is showing up in device manager then uninstall that too. Basically I'd be trying to make the computer forget what you've done.
Restart. Don't have the camera connected when you restart.
Hopefully you have the downloaded driver for the mass storage from
http://www.apexdigital.com.au/Produ...7&CategoryID=15. Store that file on your desktop (as good a place as any).
Okay, having restarted the computer, set the camera up into mass storage drive mode.
Then when you connect the camera and it detects it and runs hardware wizard and asks for the driver, only give it the downloaded driver initially. It should then ask for some other drivers, at that point if you have the install cd, point it to that, but take care not to overwrite any files that are newer than the file that is being installed.
If the world is turning correctly, hopefully, the computer will ask for a restart.
Again, hopefully, when you restart the computer your camera will show up in my computer as a removable drive.

If this information works or doesn't work can you let me know please?.
The only other thing I would try is installing the camera on someone else's computer to see if that works. If it does work then it means some stray files are hanging around on your computer from the previous install.
I'm sorry Mary, but thats as good as I can give you.
regards
Matt

If you can get the camera to be seen as a mass storage device, then you don't need the cd. If you've got irfanveiw, a free program, you'll be able to do everything in that.
http://www.irfanview.com/
Kiwi guy is right. a card reader is a solution to downloading the pictures.
