Unhappy photoshop elements 3
Hi,

I am running Windows XP and have just installed Adobe Photoshop Elements
3. The problem I am having is that quite a few of the windows are pop up
and the open much too large for me to view them completely. The filter
gallery for example opens huge and a portion is cut off on the right side. I
have not figured out any way to fix this so I can view all the functions.
I already tried uninstalling and reinstalling and it didn't change a things.
I have a gateway VX900 moniter and already checked to see if maybe I
need a new driver but it says I am current and all my other programs are
viewed just fine.

I would appreciate any help as this is making me very annoyed.

Are the windows opening to maximum size or minimum? If maximum, click the button between the - and the X in the upper right corner of the screen, and resize the window.

That's part of the problem, there is not option in these particular windows to maximize or minimize. I can resize them in any way. Not even by grabbing the window and pulling out to make it bigger. These windows will not change size at all. I have to grab the title bar and move it the the left just to view more of the window. I usually don't even have access to any commands like exit because they are at the bottom that I can't see.

I just got Elements 3 for Christmas.

I couldn't find an answer to the filter gallery display problem other than going to 1024x768 where it works just fine. It doesn't look friendly to 800x600.

There may be a preference or parameter I haven't found yet.

I just tried to get some help from adobe but apparently they don't care much if people are able to use the software just as long as they get paid. I tried changing to 1024x768 and it does work, but I just can't read anything that way. It makes everything much to small, my screen is very large and I can't read anything at that resolution. Would it hurt if I changed the to 1024x768 everytime I need to use photoshop and then just changed back after?

You could also just change the font size on message windows to a larger size via right click desktop, scroll to properties and then use the appearance tab. Click on the Advanced button on the bottom of this screen, click the drop down box, choose Menu and change the size of the type. You can also change the size of the Message box type.

Thanks for all the help. I did see on the box that it says you need to use 1024x768, but even when I change the font the majority of what I see is pretty small. I just don't like looking at my screen at that resolution. But it seems I have no other choice. Maybe a new moniter in the future might make a difference.

What are the physical dimensions of your screen (17-inch, etc.)? You may need to invest in a larger, higher resolution monitor.

In any event, it won't hurt to switch to a higher resolution to use Photoshop. Also, in Photoshop, you can view images at higher percentages, so you shouldn't have any problems seeing anything. Use the Zoom tool, or in the lower left corner of the screen, type in the size percentage. (That's how it's done in Photoshop, so I'm hoping you'll have the same options in Photoshop Elements.)

I suggest you go to the control panel ->display-> settings to adjust your screen resolution.

Ok, my screen is 19" and is from 1998. Everything else about it looks fine. I've had no problems. It just looks better at 800x600. When I change the resolution and everything gets smaller, I then change font size and other sizes it just doesn't look right to me. It's probably just my comfort level but I am so used to reading online that my eye needs a certain look. For now I will just change the resolution each time I use photoshop elements. But I am thinking of getting a newer moniter. I am just not sure what kind I should get.

Thanks for all the help and suggestions.

If I'm understanding you correct...

800x600 on a 19" monitor is very unusual...take no offense... but you are correct when you say "It's probably just my comfort level "

most , not all, use atleast 1024x 768 on a 19" and some use higher than that....

No offense taken, I didn't realize that's unusual. I have had it like that since I started using a computer. At the time didn't realize there were other options, so maybe I am just so used to it my eyes just won't adjust on this particular screen. I just got my boys a 15" flatscreen maybe once I get their computer set back up I will see if it looks better on that.
