Can't download Canon A75 digital Pics to computer
I cannot download pics from a Canon A75 digital camera into the computer. I'm using Windows SE on a Pentium III 450 MHz and have 440 MB RAM. The software seems to have loaded okay, but when I click on Browse & Download images in the Camera & Memory card window of the ZoomBrowser EX software I get an illegal operation error :
CAMERAWINDOWCOMP caused an invalid page fault in
module <unknown> at 0000:00000009. Registers:

The control panel camera & Scanner settings shows the camera as device ready when I turn the camera on. Cannon suggested I redownload the Camera Window software - it didn't help. Then said my video card (3dfx voodoo3)has a problem- but according to system settings it's okay and it works fine for everything else. About a year ago I had a Pentax digital camera (a cheap model) and although the pictures wern't that great it downloaded with no problems. (Yes, I removed its software) Any ideas? The camera isn't much good if I can't dowload photos! Thank You!

Though I have no clue about the specific problem, this program, intended to recover data from cameras, may allow you to get the pics from the camera. If it works, you may not even need the Canon software.

I'd suspect that there may be some conflict between your new software and some residual settings in the registry from the software for the older camera. You could search the registry and remove any found references to the old software and drivers, but this could prove risky if you remove the wrong things.

can you access the files from windows explorer bypassing the Canon software

Quote:
Windows SE
I assume that is 98SE in which case you will need the correct drivers but not the software...While some think it's more convenient, the software should not be necessary for trouble shooting or moving the pictures from camera to computer

Canon tech support says its likely a problem in Windows. I haven't found the files in Windows Explorer. I get error messages when I try to send the pictures to another program too.

buck,
Yes I'm using Windows 98 Second edition. No this camera doesn't show up as a removable drive like my old one did. When I go to control panel click scanners & cameras the camera shows up. when I click on the camera icon in the window it states device ready. when I click on the test button it says my camera sucessfully completed the diagnostic test. Under System Properties Device Manager , Imaging Device, Canon Camera, it states the device working properly. To answer your question "how are you able to send the pictures to another program if you can't find the files?" : When I power up the camera in view mode with the USB cable connected a "canon camera event' window pops up asking which application I want to send it to. if I send to the canon camera window I get the "illegal operation" "Cameracomp error". If I try to send it to imaging or Adobe PhotoDeluxe I get "Runtime error" "abnormal program termination", click ok and get"KODAKIMG caused an invalid page fault in
module TWAIN_32.DLL at 017f:07b76500.
Registers:" or in PhotoDeluxe i get the Runtime error, then PD3 " program performed illegal operation and will be shut down. And in details "PD3 caused an invalid page fault in module TWAIN_32.DLL at 017f:06ce6500.
Registers:"

It definitely appears to be a driver problem. Try booting into Safe Mode and removing absolutely everything related to the cam that you have installed. See if you can find the folders and delete those as well. Look through Add/Remove to be sure you have removed all you can and then go through Device Manager and remove anything related to the cam. Delete all the files in your temporary folders.

Reboot into Safe Mode and reinstall only the most recent drivers/software.

What happens when you plug the camera into the computer and open 'My Computer' ? Does the camera show up as anything ? If it does, you could try clicking it open and drag the pictures out.

I've tried uninstalling and removing all traces of old program and then reinstalling but didn't help. I used regcleaner first to uninstall, then searched fro everything with the word Canon, and also looked in Device Driver. The camera doesn't show up in "my Computer" so can't drag from it. Canon says its a Windows problem and out of their hands. Any other ideas? If I reboot into Safe mode I can't install from my CDROM.

You could copy the CD-ROM into a folder and try installing in Safe Mode (so long as the installation doesn't use the Windows Installer, which service is unavailable in Safe Mode).

I’ve never tried this for a camera, but it works for scanners and they both use the same twain files.

Uninstall the Canon software.
Empty the recycle bin
Do a search for twain and delete all twain files and folders you find in the Windows folder only.
Reinstall the Canon software.

If it doesn’t work do another search for twain and if those files were not replaced by the Canon software you can restore them from the recycle bin. A better choice would be to uninstall and reinstall your scanner software if you have one.

Twain files are used by various imaging devices. If they become corrupted, an uninstall of the software doesn’t remove them and an install won’t overwrite them. But if the files aren’t there an install of the software for a twain device should install new twain files.

same problem
I have had the same situation arise with the canon zoomexbrower software with win98se...

I believe the canon utility broke after one the the recent windows updates...
Time for canon to accept responsibility for this crappy piece of software and maybe just 'can it' and provide something more robust (ie sticky settings...) and usable.

anyway, now I just copy them from the card to the hard drive, sure is easier.

bobr100,
Guess its some condolence to know that someone else had the same problem and i didn't screw something up. Guess the card reader is the easiest solution.

I have a cheap older AFGA camera that also does not show as a seperate drive like my newer one. This drove me nuts until I found I can IMPORT photos into software.

The camera is selected just like a scanner is selected (notice a scanner also doesnt show as a hard drive.) This solved my problems so you might try it as a work-around.

I have the Cannon A510, which replaced the A75. It came with the ZoomBrowser software also. When I plug it in and turn it on, the Cannon camera and scanner wizzard opens. I just click on Next and the pictures appear. I select the ones that I want to download, or all of them, and click next. Then they download to "My Pictures". I can then open the ZoomBrowser and view all of the pictures in the My Pictures folder.
I am using WinMe.
