Do you already have the gif?

If so, I find it easiest to export to Animation shop and use the eraser tool...

Paintshop Pro
1. Select the 'Colors, Set Palette Transparency' command.
2. Activate the 'Set the transparency value to palette entry' option.
3. Move the mouse pointer into the image and click the color you want to be transparent.
4. Click OK.
5. Select 'File, Save As'.
6. In the 'Save as type' list choose 'CompuServe Graphics Interchange' (.gif)
