Photoshop help! - picture effects
I have an image that I want to use in a website. The website will have a white background. I want to use some effects in the picture so the borders can disapear, like if the picture fades in the white background. How can I do it?

I hope you can understand what I'm trying to say here...

I am currently going over all the effects and plugins I have in photoshop, and making notes on what they do, and if I might find them usefull for anything or not. I have extra ones, more than the basic ones that come with photoshop. There are ones that put a circle (like light) around the picture, but I'm not sure right now which ones and if they are standard ones.

What about copying the picture, pasting it on a larger (white) background, just to give yourself more room, and using the airbrush (with white, and a "light" kind of setting) and airbrushing white aound the outside of the picture?

Duplicate the image first so as not to rish the original.

That way you can experiment with it, and how much to airbrush out (around the sides). Till you get the look you want. Since you have a white background it might make it simplier. If you use an open (light) pattern with the airbrush you can control it and make it heavier as it goes away from the picture so it looks like it fades into the background.

If you're looking to use effects/filters maybe someone else here can tell you which one does this. I haven't got them memorized yet and so many do similar things, OR things that I don't find useful.

Maybe tomorrow if I have time I'll try using some and see what does this (if not the airbrush). I'm interesting in learning all I can about it.

Open the document in PS, make a new layer. Unlock the first layer by double clicking and naming it anything you like.Move the blank layer to the bottom and fill with white. Use the marquee tool on the picture layer, rectagular for that shape, or round if you so choose. Drag the marquee tool until you have selected as much of the photo as you want to show, leaving a bit of room left over. Go to the file menu, go to Select > Feather. Choose the amount in the box, the larger the number you choose, the larger your "fade". Then again, go to Select > Inverse. Hit the delete key on your keyboard. You can save it as a copy, go to "save for web" and choose to save as a jpeg if it is a photo. Hope this helps. This is how I do it anyway, you can also follow someone else's steps to achieve the same effect. Also, you can choose "vignette" from the actions palette and achieve the same effect.

Photoshop
Hola Nando
First open your picture, and save as another name, just in case you don't like what you did.
Now;
Get your picture,
Double click in your first layer,
Rename,
Add another layer,
Put this new layer as a background layer
Fill this new layer with white.
Go to your second layer --the one with your picture-- and draw a marque where you want to start to fade.
Whit the marque in position, go to Filter/Blur/Gaussian blur, and enter the amount you want to fade --For small resolution pictures, 5 to 15 should be enough--
Invert the selection --Go to Image/ Adjustments/ Invert
Hit the delete key
Presto

I hope this help

Good luck
