Resizing in Paint Shop Pro 7
I am having problems attempting to resize photographs with Paint Shop Pro 7. When I go into the resize options it gives 3 choices as to how the resize can be undertaken: either by amending pixel size, amending the percentage size of the original photograph or thirdly by specifying the actual size that the new picture should be.

I went the third route as it seemed the most logical. My first problem was that when I looked at the original pictures size it was showing as something like 22ins x 11ins! How can this be - its nearly 2 feet wide by a foot high!!

Undaunted I rescaled to the dimensions that I wanted, 7" x5" and hit the print preview. It just showed an image that appeared to be a blown up image of the original picture, lacking in pixels and very jagged. The original picture itself was showing as 5 mb's in size which in itself seems strange as it was taken with a 3mb camera (Olympus mju).

Can someone please tell me where I am going wrong. I have read and reread the help files that accompany the programme but am getting nowhere fast.

Thanks

What format did you take the original in?

Megabites and megapixels are too different things.

What print program are you using?

What is the resolution set to in the print size section?

Buck 52

Picture was taken in JPEG format

I am using Photo Shop Pro 7

The actual resoloution is showing as 72000 pixels per inch

I dont know if it helps but the details of the picture are 1600x1200 and has a size of 495kb.

Thanks

This is because you are spreading the 1600 pixels out at only 72 pixels/inch not 72000 as in your last post...there is a comma between the 2 and the 0...

I have duplicated your situation... here is what my resize window looks like...

try this...Where the resolution is, enter 240... notice how the print size shrinks because now the 1600 pixels are being displayed at 240 pixels/inch... anyway now go back to the width box and enter 7 ... In the resize box make sure it says bicubic resample then click OK

Now click file then print preview and how does it look ?

Hi buck 52,

Thank you for replying to my posting. I have done as you suggested - having got myself a new pair of glasses first ( I suppose there is a slight difference between 72 dps and 72000!!)

When I check the result in print preview it looks excellent with no sign of jaggedness.

One thing that I am unclear about is that when I printed the picture, the print measured 8" x 6". I tried altering the width box to 6, just to see what effect it would have, it altered the height box to 4 as would be expected and the image physically reduced in size on screen, however in print preview, and subsequently when I printed the picture - the dimensions remained as before ie 8"x 6"

Is there something I am doing wrong as ideally I would like the image to be either 7" x 5" or 6" x 4"

Thanks

Hi jampot

Not sure about that...it prints exactly 7 x 5.25 for me as it should... I tried a second print at 6x and it printed as it should as well 6 x 4.5...

Might have a look in the page setup or printer properties for any margin settings or something like that...

I don't think it will help but, you might try saving the reduced image then reopen it and check the print size box before printing

Buck 52,

Hi - this is really annoying! I have tried everything but image is still printing out at 8" x 6" I am running out of paper and ink! It is weird because in print preview the image does change size. I thought the answer was because the default print setting was 'letter' rather than 'A4'...this did not help!

If anyone else can help I would be grateful.

Thanks

buck 52,

I have finally cracked it! In the page set up menu there is a 'Fit to Page' box which was checked. Unchecking this enabled the picture to print at the size I requested rather than the programme making it fit the page.

It would be interesting to check to see if the box on your application is also unchecked.

Anyway for now I am just happy that I can finally get this nagging problem out of my system - that is until the next one comes along!

Thanks for your help along the way.

Regards

Jampot
