Question Solved: "No TWAIN Device Available"
I have downloaded the free Serif PhotoPlus 5.5 (the startup scene says "PhotoPlus 6" though) so our business can we can import images from a Canon Powershot 50a digital camera.

I am running an eMachine 600, Win98se and it does have all four TWAIN and TWUNK.dlls installed. I also have the MSVCRT20.DLL too (of course)

However, when I set the camera to "PC". Nothing happened. I clicked onto "Import from Twain" on the Serif and get:
Quote:
"There are no TWAIN devices available"
When I look in "File" and into "Import", the box is empty.

This camera did work with a Dell 933 that had Adobe Photoshop Homedeluxe installed. However, it was getting "cranky" from age. This was recently replaced with a newer "cobble together" P4 with all BUS ports. The machine is too fast anyway for the software.

Would really appreciate any help. We need the camera for taking business photos to send to customers over the internet.

I am guessing you have a S50 and are connected to the computer via USB. Most devices need USB drivers with Win98SE. You might browse around Canon support and see if you can find drivers for whatever Canon you have – all Canons I am familiar with have a designation that starts with a letter.

Serif is just telling you it doesn’t see a device to import from.

After I posted my inquiry, I did go to the Canon website and downloaded the needed TWAIN device/drivers. The Serif PhotoPlus 6 recognizes it now.

Thanks for the tip, though.

Now that the camera is being recognized you don’t have to go through the Serif software to download your pictures. With the camera hooked up and turned on RIGHT click Start and left click Explore. There should be a separate drive letter that is a “removable drive” or camera. With Windows Explorer open you can move your stuff from the camera to any folder you want on the computer. Many people prefer taking the pictures directly from the camera.

I open the pictures folder, Edit>Select All, Edit>Copy. Then just right click on the folder I want them in and select Paste. Some people are devoted draggers and you can do that too.

Hello .....again.

Similar problem but this time running a HP Pavilion 504n P 4, 2 gig WinXP Home Edition (finally upgraded to this from my three year old eMachine 600 Win98se)

The HP came with ArcSoft Software Suite with Photoimpression 4 but installed the Serif PhotoPlus 6 anyway as I had gotten used to using it with my older eMachine Win98se. Neither recognizes the Canon Powershot A50 digital camera. I did go to the Canon site and downloaded the software/drivers.

(Actually, I had the compressed file in my "Downloads" folder burned/saved on a seperate disk when transferring wanted files to go into the Pavilion. Did not delete it after installing it in the older computer. I checked first to see if Canon changed anything....they did not.)

Again, the Pavilion has all of the Twunks and Twains. I do have the Twain compressed file that I downloaded/kept in a seperate folder for the Win98se (.....no, this is NOT the Twain folder that came with the Win98se.....) This particular set of files was kept compressed/saved in a folder with the Serif PhotoPlus 6 install program (FSS) for later switching/installing. These were burned along with any other files/data wanting to transfer from the eMachine to the HP Pavilion.

Dumb question time. Why wont the Serif recognize my camera? It did last time with my eMachine Win98se after installing the Powershot A50 software/drivers.

For that matter, I cannot even do the alternative "capturing" Slipe suggested, unless I am not "seeing" something with this WinXP Home ed.
