Is it possible to use my Canon A75 as a webcam? What software do I need?

The official Canon answer appears to be "No", but it seems possible that someone may have developed an unsupported driver?

You would need a high speed internet connection both ends, as it is a high resolution camera and a lot of data would be required.

The following was found using Google, which best explains it (regarding an earlier model).

"The Remote Capture software included on the Canon Digital Camera Solutions Disk provides the capability to take and store images remotely using your computer via the USB connection. This is not the same as providing real-time, live video feed to a web server. Apparently some people have been successful in using their Canon digital camera as a webcam utilizing the Audio/Video Out port (if your camera is so equipped). Canon does not recommend using your camera in this manner.

The picture resolution capabilities of your Canon digital camera far exceed the requirements of even a high-quality webcam. Using your digital camera as a webcam would be similar to using a 100-piece symphony orchestra for a high school dance instead of a 5-piece combo. The symphony could obviously fulfill the requirement for music, but the type of music presented may not be exactly what the dancers want. And setting up the auditorium for the symphony would require more time, equipment and expertise than it would for the combo.

Our recommendation is to get a built-for-the-purpose webcam if you wish to send live video over the web. They are quite inexpensive, very easy to install and set up, and are designed for continuous use."

Thankyou Kiwiguy, that's kinda what I thought too, that the resolution etc would kill your broadband space....back to the drawing board!
