Solved: JPEGs won't open in Outlook Express/photo viewer program problem
When I receive jpegs in my email (Outlook Express) my Kodak software for my digital camera tries to open these pix and can't. A friend gave me an old viewer program called ACDSee32 so I can open these photos. I moved it from the floppy to a folder. How do I get the files in the folder to be a program I can use, and how do I set it up so I can then open my photos coming into my email account to open in this program? Thanks a lot!!!

I have XP PRO and am using SBC Yahoo and Outlook Express email

Are all these jpegs actually jpegs? (Control panel - Folder Options - View - uncheck 'Hide extensions for known file types' - to view the file extensions eg: Jpeg, jpg or Jp2 'jpeg2000')
Can the Kodak software still view other jpegs - eg: off the web? Outlook express shows the images yes?

I would imagine that the jpegs you are recieving are saved in a way that The Kodak software can't handle (progressive maybe); have you tried reinstalling the Kodak Prog?

"Hide extensions for known file types" is already unchecked. I can view the jpeg within the email, but can't open the attachment. I tried reinstalling the software to no avail. The error message I get when I try to open it is "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Folders Options control panel." How would I do that? I either need to do this action or access the ACDsee photo viewer program I mentioned. Kodak software can view photos off the web. Thanks again.

If the extension is *.JPEG not the more common *.JPG, then it seems like your kodak prog has lost the file association.
Can you open the Jpeg from within the Kodak software (IE: File - Open)?
Whatever, reinstalling the Kodak software should reassociate the file extension.

If you just have a copy of the ACDSee folder from your friend’s computer on a floppy it might not work as a program. You usually have to go through an installation process and the program file on the computer doesn’t usually have the information needed to install the program. If you want to try, open Windows Explorer and left click your A drive. If ACDSee is in a folder on the floppy, RIGHT click the folder and select “Copy”. Open your C drive and right click on Program Files. Select “Paste”. If the separate files are on the floppy I would make a folder in Program Files, right click the A drive, select “Copy”, right click your new folder and click “Paste”

Your best bet is to go to www.irfanview.com and download Irfanview. During the installation check “Images only” for the file association. The program is free and excellent.
