Question epsonC84 ink problem: Did I ruin it?
Hey.

I recently bought an epson C84 printer to repace my HP. I was really pleased with the performance of the little cheapo printer & especially pleased at the waterproof ink & separate cartridges. The only problem was that the thing really used a lot of ink & due to a "chip" in the cart. - you can't refil them. I got online & bought some new cartridges from a company called Printer INk Warehouse & the new carts were total junk. the black one just barely printed one black line & some gray streaks & the color ones just made a green / black smeared mess. As per advise from the Printer Ink Warehouse customer service people I put a drop of window cleaner in each print head - and just made a bigger mess. I removed the new junk & replaced the old ink carts (so the print head wouldn't dry out) & sent the junk ones back with a suitably rude letter... Oh yea.... their CSR told me "the replacement cartridges ink is not water proof" SO! my question is: did I ruin my printer with their cheap junk ink & is it worth it to buy another set of cartridges (which in total will cost about as much as the printer). or should I junk it & get another new one???? thanks Kerry

Hi Kerry:I have an HP and a Lexmark and have experimented with re-manufactured cartridges from a number of different sources and have found this to be a less than satisfactory way to get cartridges,so I have just decided to bite the bullet and get the real thing cartridges.
I think I just might get a new set of cartridges(epson) and try that first. If you get a new printer, you will have to buy a spare set anyway,so what's the difference.

I have several printers HP OfficeJet40, DeskJet 722C, PhotoSmart 7660, DeskJet 3320, and a Dell Scanner-Prt combo. I found (the hard way) that some inks are not compatible even with the HP's. The re-fill process is messy. The money I was saving (very minimal) wasn't worth the mess. Finally decided to go back to buying new cartridges and my problems are over. I have bottles and bottles of leftover ink I bought someplace and dumped everything away. Re-filling is not worth it. And... even when they advertise compatibility there is no guarantee.
