Dimage z1
I have a dimage z1... last night I formatted/reformatted my camera accidentally and it erased all of my pictures. I had some extremely important photos on there, does anyone know if there is a way to get them back?

I know thiis is wishful thinking but I'm desperate

I apologize for the delay in replying..

I'm going to try all of those programs until I can find one that works haha. right now the only issue is that I need to somehow connect it to my computer, so I will research more into that and see what I should get.

Thank you both so much

I assume the computer and camera have spoken to each other before...

What have you done to change this?

What OS are you using? If you are using XP you should not need to "get" anything... XP should regognize he camera as soon as it's plugged in...

I'm using XP, although I've never tried to connect them before. I plugged it in, and it registered that there was some kind of new hardware, but beyond that nothing happens. The camera still says "initializing USB connection"

If you never plugged the camera into the computer before then you must have had a way of downloading the photos. You can run recovery programs through a card reader just as easily as through the camera. Just don’t take any more pictures using that card.

Actually, thats the thing, I used to have a cd with all the pictures on it when I took them to be developed. I never downloaded them onto my computer.

And why can't I use the card? Is it going to ruin it?

Where is the cd with the originals on it?
If you use the card you won't ruin it you will just overwrite the images that may or may not be there...just like with the hard drive on your computer...

when looking to recover files don't use the computer/disk/card in question

I never got a cd for the photos I need. I practically deleted them right after I took them, so i need to connect to the camera/card itself.

And what do you mean don't use the card in question? You mean after I recover them?

you are very confusing?

Where are the pictures that you want to recover at the moment?

Don't use the camera or the card that was/is in the camera period, until you have resolved this issue

Sorry about that.. I re-read it and realized that I made no sense. What I meant was that I've never connected the camera before because I had always had a cd, yet in this situation, I didn't have time to take the photos to be developed before I had accidentally deleted them.

And no, i definitely don't plan on using the camera until this is resolved, thought I still can't seem to get my computer to connect to the camera. I wasn't given a cd for installation (at least not that I can remember/find) and it won't register the camera as a drive, which means I can't recover any pictures.

I'm so frustrated..

Why XP does not recognize that camera is a mystery...it should...however... the simple solution is to buy a card reader and take the camera out of the equation
