Solved: Paperport Problems
I recently formatted my mothers computer and reinstalled her Paperport 6.5 software that came bundled with her Visioneer 6100 scanner. Problems occur when she tries to preview the object being scanned. After hitting preview, the screen flickers a bit, goes gray and then shows the preview, but it is just a black box where the picture should be. Pressing the scan button yields no results, but she told me that before the format, when it was working, the only way she could scan a picture was to first preview it then scan it. I'm not too familiar with this older version, perhaps that is the way it works. I also tried uninstalling and reinstalling but it didn't help. I have Paperport 8.0 I would like to install on it instead but have had great problems in the past upgrading from one version to another. It always seems like parts of the old program always linger, conflicting with the newer version no matter how deep I dig to remove it all. I went to Scansoft's website to look for a possible cleaning tool but found nothing. Then I tried contacting Scansoft through e-mail support but they want $9.95 just to send them an e-mail. I've never dealt with a company that charges you for e-mail support so they are already on my crap list. I would really like to upgrade her to the 8.0, but I want to sure I can get rid of all of the 6.5 entries first. Any help would be greatly appreciated. The spec I can remember are as follows:
Dell 2550
2.6(?) p4 Celeron
256 mgs ram
onboard sound and video
win xp home sp2
AVG antivirus
windows firewall

well you could start by uninstalling from add remove programs, then restart, once back in windows click start - run - type in %temp% and click okay. delete evry thing in the folder. emplty your recycle bin. then run hijack this

don't fix anything just do a scan and save the scan to a note pad document, when it's finished you can research the log to find where the old program data has been stored.

Well, I ran ccleaner as well as a host of other progs, including regcleaner, system mechanic, adaware, spybot, avg virus scan, windows updates, and cleaned every registry entry I could find pertaining to visioneer, scansoft, and paperport. I've also deleted all cookies, cache, and temp files. This thing should be squeaky clean, so I think I can try to install paperport 8.0 but before I do, I've attached the hijackthis log for anyones viewing. I didn't see any part of the program anywhere, but I would like another opinion as I will admit, I'm not an expert at interpreting these logs. Any help would be greatly appreciated...
