Video Chat
Our daughter will be going to University this autumn, and to help keep in touch we have bought a couple of Logitech web cams, a "Notebook Pro" for her laptop, and a "Quickcam 4000 Pro" for our desktop.

The image quality of both is excellent using Microsoft Messenger, but I would like to have a larger size picture, and this is something which Messenger can't deliver, plus it is subject to freezing.

Can anyone recommend some software we could use to communicate. We will both have broadband (1.5+Mb) connections, and powerful enough computers to make the most of it. We are not looking to take part in any chat rooms, and only want a one to one video and audio link.

I am not necessarily looking for something free as I accept that what I want will have to be paid for.

Any ideas chaps?

My Logitech Software came with a free trial of software for just such a purpose. It was intended to hold meetings via video and more than one person could participate. It was rather low priced to use and there was a free trial so you could see if it work for your purpose.

Thanks Zatff, I have seen the logitech software and will try the free trial, but it seems to cost $65 per year, and I suppose I will have to have a copy each end, so it is a little more than I had hoped to pay.

Does anyone know of any service with a one off charge?

I think it works like a chat room or web site where you both log in. The fee then is for their service. The advantage might be easier connections, option for have several people on at same time, and maybe better quality if both have good broadband connections. Were they still offering a sixty or 90 day trial?

Hi Zatff, they are only offering 30 days free trial at the moment! I will give it a try, but I have now found that the latest version of MS Messenger (7) will allow varying sizes of picture, even full screen; how much larger than that could I want? The problem I guess is quality, and I'm sure the Logitech would excel here. Thanks for your help.
