Solved: Basic video editing question
Hello,

I have not done any photo nor video editing before but now that I have a web cam Im wanting to cut and splice sections of the captured AVI movies to reduce their size or to make a complete sequence.
Whats the best piece of free software to do this? perhaps one comes with XP? or can I use Media Player, or some other commonly bundled application?

Thanks

May have found what I was after - Microsoft Movie Maker - apparently its part of SP2 but I couldnt find it on the menu, had to go though Help and Support. Must work out how to add it to the menu.
I have split the movie and am now trying to figure out increase the volume and how to save the section I require.

Windows Movie Maker - the latest version - is probably the best free software for video editing, although it is only for basic amateur editing. Could you clarify what you are trying to do? Have you dragged the video you want into the timeline/storyboard at the bottom? Do you want a particular section of volume increased or just the whole thing?

To save the newly edited movie, go to
File
Save Movie File
And follow the wizard Instructions

Thanks skartel, I worked it out in the end ie. as you say, you have to drag the clip into the storyboard before the the clip can be saved and emailed. Managed to increase the volume of the whole clip too.
