I just tried this myself after reading your question. Hook the camera up to the usb port and turn it on. if your using windows xp you can just highlight the pictures you want moved and move them to the camera. Xp sees the cameras card as a storage device.

As rrlr420 said, you will be able to drop the images back into the camera easily.

But, you will only be able to view those images again in the camera if they were taken by that camera (or at least the same model) and the images have not been altered in any way by an editor in the computer.

After reading skibum35 post i put a picture back in my camera that i downloaded from a website and changed its size with another program and was able to see it in the camera and print it. may be just depends on your camera (mine is a fuji).

Good one.

It must depend on your camera and/or editing program. That is the first time I have heard of someone being successful in getting to view the shot.

I guess the lesson is to try it first eh?

It does depend on the camera type and firmware.
Many will display almost any image uploaded back onto the camera card or memory.

I have 3 digital cameras of different brands and they will all display images taken by other cameras. The file name has to be in the right format and I can’t strip the EXIF.

Thanks for the good answers everyone.I find it much cheaper and easier to have my digital pics printed at Walmart rather than print them myself. However,I couldn't "fix" the imperfections at the Walmart card reader. So my only options were to live with the redeye pics or fix them with my editing program and burn them to CD.Now,it seems that I will be able to fix them and write them back to the media card...cool!!

I guess its partly true. I would have to say it depends on what tools you have for that..
What I mean is, if you have a sony camera for example, where the memory stick is simply a "hard drive" on your PC when you connect it, simply drag back the images to the folder.. the camera will know how to handle it.

However, in cannon for example, the process of copying images is dome through a special software that comes with the camera afaik. its not an emulated drive where you can copy&paste file back and forth. So no idea there how, but I assume that with a universal memory-card reader/writer you will most probably be able to do that with mostly any camera.

For your purposes of transporting the images to Walmart, any camera that shows as a drive in Windows Explorer will allow you to copy the modified pictures back to the card. You need be concerned about file names and EXIF only if you want to display the images on the camera LCD.

Almost all cameras anymore display as a drive. Some old models can only transfer through dedicated software and you would need a card reader for those as has been mentioned.
