Hello, I've Had Photoshop for a while, but never used it until recently. I started teaching myself how to use it, and started being a little less afraid of it. (I feel like such an Idiot) Even so much so that I uninstalled the Trial and Dell OEM Versions of Jsec Paintshop pro that I had installed, and reassociated My jpeg files with Photoshop instead.

I was doing alright, (Or at least thats what I Kept telling myself) and the pics i modified were cool and everything, but then Photoshop began crashing my computer. i Now it takes forever to load, and that is just the beginning. it does not matter whether I use photoshop, or image ready. the problem persists.

I am losing my mind because every time i try to save a pic, and then re open it for further editing, now i get a message that says "photoshop can not exicute you request because there is not enough memory (RAM)" or something to that effect. A couple of times Photoshop would not load at all. the only work around I have to the RAM problem, is opening the windows picture and fax viewer, and resaving it as a jpeg again. but that seems stupid.

Is there a reason why Photoshop is slowing my entire computer down and having theses other issues? when running Photoshop, my CPU usage skyrockets to 100% and my PF usage (whatever that is) has gone up as high as 1.5 GB. am I doing something wrong? I am running Windows XP SP2 and have uninstalled and reinstalled Photoshop twice. I heard there were some bugs in the program, are there any fixes/ patches I should be aware of? Any light that could be shed would be greatly appreciated.

you should post a hijackthis log

photoshop shouldnt take that much.


on my pc photoshop only takes how much memory you want it to take





when running photoshop make sure your under at least 22 running processes


anything above 22 will start giving you trouble


on my pc, i had photoshop cs2 firefox and windows media player opened



my pc is msconfig tweaked which almost doubles my speed and performance with out overclocking

Under preferences, select plug-ins&Scratch disks. Make sure your First scratch disk is not the disk that your application is on (if you have two hard drives.)

Ok It actually is . Photoshop is on my C: Drive and the first scratch disk is my c drive. what do i do now? just change is to me secondary hard drive?

Change your scratch disk to your secondary drive.

I've heard of people having poor Photoshop (CS2) performance when the Info palette is open, try closing it.
You could also check to see if there are any hardware updates, espec' for your graphics card (or try disabling hardware acceleration).
Try decreasing the number of cache levels in preferences (default is 4, so 2 may be better) - at this point, it will be better to leave photoshops Ram allocation at the default level (55%).

I have tried all that was suggested, but there is still now improvement, but even so, I did get to finish the project i was working on I appreciate all the help that has been offered, and found a slight work around. by disabling some AOL services i found it ran a little better- not much. but enough to allow me to finishe what I was doing. there is probably a conflict between the two.
