Any sonic foundry alternatives?
Hi guys,

Is there a free alternative to now Sony's sonic foundry? Like a photoshop and GIMP or Openoffice etc. (Don't wanna torrent it). My friend lost his computer to a crash and is rebuilding.
He had Sonic foudry 1.0 from way back and it did the job. Now he has to buy the overkill that is sony's sonic foudry 4.0 or other ware and all he did was audio related.

Thanks for any input.

You could tell him to try Audacity - that may fill some of his requirements.

Sonic Foundry was the old name of the company that produced Vegas, Acid, and Sound Forge. I assume you are referring to Sound Forge---and no, there is nothing as rich in features out there that is as good as Sound Forge. My assumption is that your friend had illegal software on his computer, because if he didn't, it would be simple enough to contact Sony and get his registration numbers.

He does mostly music mixing, some kinda dj, nothing large scaled here but he's into music mixing, editing and I bet he had surround sound output as well.

I'll find out if Audacity will do the job (if he'll get a full version) and if its has enough features to serve his purpose.
