I want to try my hand at video editing. Any freeware s/w out there thats any good to start??

Windows XP comes with Movie Maker and there is Avid Free DV.

how serious are you about video editing, and what exactly do you want to do with it? Make the best movies possible? if so you might also want to look at avisynth and virtualdub
