It is very difficult to diagnose a problem when we don't know who made the camera, what kind of drivers it requires etc.

Does your "frend" have a clue who made the camera or possibly still have the install cd that would have come with it?

If XP does not recognize the camera and show it as a removeable drive in Explorer when you plug it in, then with out knowing who made the camera, as in the manufacturer , you are most likely going to be out of luck

Without the actual model number its not really possible to be much help, as each model will have its own specific firmware. Google shows that Sonix make many models of camera of "dual mode" purpose.

The "dual mode" is not actually a model, it just means its a dual purpose webcam or digicam.

I don't think Windows update will be much help.

Without the basic info of a model number we cannot even be sure its compatable with XP. Ask your friend where it was purchased, what info came with it?

Would it happen to be Sipix ? If not that then maybe this one ? There were lots of dual mode cheapies on google and e-bay so find the model and then you can get better help with drivers.

Sonix only make the electronic chipsets that were used by many low-end camera makers as I see it.

Windows is probably reporting the chipset it sees, while the poster requires the drivers to implement the actual camera maker interface to that chipset.

I would guess it could be any of hundreds of actual possibilities, if each maker applied their own firmware?

http://www.google.co.nz/search?sourc...a%22+driver+xp

14,400 pages to go through. But presumably you used Google before coming here?

Enjoy.

There is no way we can give you any greater help, if it was me I would have opened the camera up by now to see if a maker was identifiable on the inside.

Afterall we don't even know if its ever going to be compatable with XP.
