How to make a line drawing?
I have a photo that I want represented a very basic line drawing.

I tried messing around with the effects in PS, but the photo is not sharp enough to make a the type of basic drawing that I want.

The drawing is going into a black and white publication - so excess shades etc are not necessary.

How can I just go over the top of the photo and trace out the lines of the edges with a black line?

I have PS, Paint and Irfanview.

This is with the photocopy filter in sketch. You should be able to clean it up with the eraser and maybe a sharp brush.

It is a tiny image. I'm guessing you downloaded it. It also has compression artifacts from a very low quality compression. I would search Google images for a better image.

And to reduce artifacts, "save as" for example .PNG NOT .JPG.

Compression artifacts around those sharp lines in your photo will tend to give
the appearance that the picture is fuzzy. These artifacts are enhanced when
saving as JPG. When you are ready to save your image, "save as" PNG or any
file type that is a lossless format - usually any file type other than JPG will do it
but, I prefer PNG myself even though file size increases.
