Help with camera
Alright I am new today and have a question

My school has started up a photography class and I have had this camera for like a long time maybe 3 years. Kinda old i know. But it used to be faster in taking a picture but now when I try to take a pictur in motion it is very blurry. Like if someone was walking down the hall at my school and i took a picture it came out blurry, if i took a picture of a car driving by it came out blurry. This camere is a Sony Cyber-shot 5.0 Mega pixles
MPEGMovieVX
Smart Zoom DSC- P92
3x Optical zoom

Now I have no idea to work this thing. It used to be my moms then she gave it to me when she got a new one and we can't find the manual and she says it never used to be that solw. I was wondering if i could change some setting to speed it up a little but.
Any help would be appricated!!!! Thanks

For a start download the user manual from here: http://www.cybershotcentral.com/manuals/DSC-P92.pdf
Then look up taking movies "image size" or words to that effect.

Can you clarify if the problem you are having is taking movies or still images ?

reading the manual would help you a great deal...

As well as answering xgerryxs question about still or video

It would also help if he would list what setting he had the camera on...auto - scenery etc.

Since you lowered from 5 to 1.2 Mp you are obviously taking stills.

You are getting motion blur from not having enough shutter speed. Indoors all you can do is turn the flash on. Sony uses a 1/45 flash sync with that circa camera, so if there is bright light indoors the flash will freeze the motion but you will get motion blur in a ghost from the regular light. It is a feature that gives better background lighting with flash shots but can give ghosts if things are moving in good light. But there usually isn’t enough shutter speed indoors to get good shots of still subjects without flash and motion is almost impossible.

Outdoors there doesn’t seem to be a sports mode that will open the lens and give you all the shutter speed available. You might check the manual for a sports mode, but it isn’t in their feature list. About the only thing you can do to get faster shutter is to increase the ISO to maybe 200. You can even try ISO400, but the shots are quite noisy. Higher ISO increases noise in the photos but will freeze action a little better. For cars you have to learn to pan with the movement. That blurs the background rather than the car.

That is still a very good little camera. I think you just have to learn its limitations. There aren’t a lot of settings to make. I hope your class covers spot metering and EV corrections for back light.

Yes, I have the setting set to auto.. yes no movie just still images but when I was tryig to take a pic of my friend doing a wheelie on my four wheeler last night it would turn out alright (not really blurry) but it would take it so slow( like I couldn't even see him in the camera and right before I knew he was going to go on the screen I took the picture and it just got the very back of the four wheeler so I turned the flash off and didn't make any differnece. I was wondering if you could turn ou the shutter speed at al or do something else. I think lowering it from 5.0 mp to 1.2 mp help out the blurniess but now and always has been slow like this

Reset it back to 5.0 mp to capture the most info.

The best thing you can do now is just practice with it in different situations and settings and refer back to your manual often as there is quite a reasonable learning curve to get the best out a digital camera even if you do just use it on auto.

Another thing you can do is to upload a photo or two to a site like http://photobucket.com/ or webshots and post a link back here so that we can have a look and give you some good critical feedback and advice on how you might be able to do better.

You seem to have a jumble of unrelated problems and as soon as we try to discuss one you jump to another.

You can’t just push the shutter all the way on a consumer digital camera and expect it to take a picture instantly. It has to focus and meter first. You should take most of your photos by pressing the shutter halfway and holding it until you get a ready indication. Then pressing it the rest of the way gives a picture without much delay. There is about a half second delay with the P92 between a full shutter press and getting the picture, which is very good for a 2003 camera. If you don’t want to bother taking pictures with a half shutter press first as most manuals recommend you will just have to anticipate the delay.
