Changing the Shortcut Bar in the open dialog box in Photoshop
I'm trying to change the shortucts in the open dialog box on the left hand side in photoshop. I know how to do this in regular office prgorams and it's called My Places bar. But there are no options to add a shortcut or folders to that area. Does anyone know how to do this? Thanks.

As far as I know the toolbar in Photoshop is fixed if that is what you are referring to.

Here is a pic of what I want to change. I've done it before, but the website that listed the how to has since expired. Now I'm stuck.

What version PS are you using?

The image you have posted will change right along with the places bar settings... 5 is the max I believe

In CS2 at the bottom left of that box you can change from OS view to Adobe view... not much difference to me once you fiddle with the settings

The yellow folder with the asterisk on the top right is the shortcut menu. To add a shortcut to that, right click it with the destination you want in the “Look in” window and select add a shortcut.

I have no idea how to modify the “My Places” bar you have circled. There is a M$ article on how to modify that bar in any Office program, but it says the first five items can’t be changed. Adding one to the Office places bar does not add it to the PS open menu.

TweakUI can change the places bar, but I don't know whether it will affect the PS open menu.

TweakUI works fine for the PS places bar. It is under “Common Dialogs” in the TweakUI menu. You can download it from M$: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/d...powertoys.mspx

Tweakui or hand applied regedit settings definitely apply to the open menu in Photoshop CS2
and you can modify them all you want... however I'm not sure if you can add to them beyond 5

TweakUI has only 5 slots. With Office applications you can have more than 5 but it just shows the default 5 with a down arrow for the extras you added. My guess is that the registry edit won't display more than 5 either.

I'm glad you asked the question. I've just always ignored it in Photoshop since I don't use My Pictures. Now it is semi-useful.

Thanks for the replys. I tried Tweak UI and that worked great. Using the Common Dialogs option I was able to add upto 5 shorcuts. It did get rid of the defaults that were there, so I just added back the ones I use the most. And it did not change my office product place bars, which is also good. Thanks.
