Inexpensive Photo Editor
I have been trying out PhotoPosPro (www.photopospro.com) and have found it to be a very capable editor. There is a 30-day free trial and it seems to be almost as good as Photoshop 7.0 although not quite as easy to use. Although maybe that could be because I am very used to Photoshop. The full version is only $44.90 USD which seems to be very good for a program with this many features.

Photoshop Elements 4.0 is a little more expensive (~$80) ... but it has almost all the important editing tools found in Photoshop CS2 ... and works the same as Photoshop.

If you're familiar with Photoshop ... I'd go with PS Elements.
It has a trial download also.

I guess my first question would be...Why are you not using Photoshop if you are used to it?...

I've been wondering about that for a long time. How can it possibly be legal when PSP was never freeware? Being old doesn't change its license.

A couple of things. First I gave the wrong URL for PhotoPosPro. It should have been www.photopos.com. Very sorry about that. Some days my fingers have minds of their own.

Second, I am trying out different software for a relative that doesn't want to spend the money for Photoshop but want a really capable editor. That rules out the Gimp. I have used it and found it to be a total disaster lacking useful things like a polygon selection tool. The user interface also is not very friendly, either.

I use Photoshop for all my editing. Probably because I've used it for many years and we all like what we're used to, don't we? After all my first digital camera was a Kodak DC50, so that will give you an idea of how long I've been dabbling.

I do appreciate the suggestions about the other programs, though. I'll d/l them and give them a try, too.

Thanks for all the feedback.

Gimp is capable? Only if you've never used a real photo editor. I used it for weeks, trying to make it work. It has no polygon selection tool, it's clone stamp function is pitiful and the user interface is terrible. Other than that, it's a it's fine for those that don't really need a photo editor or know what a real one should do.

Irfanview? Another joke. You can look at photos but I can do that with Windows Explorer. As far as editing, it does nothing worthwhile. I also downloaded Picassa and found it to also be totally useless as an editor. Yes, you can do a few things if you are satisfied with making the corrections the developers decided you should make. But as far as selection, cloning, true color correction and a decent brightness/contrast adjustment, forget it.

PSP7 works pretty well. As do the various Photoshop derivatives. I think the PhotoPosPro does a nice job after you get the hang of the tools. They're not difficult, just different. But I'm sure they were not wanting to produce a Photoshop clone. So it's really OK to be different.

Thanks I wonder why I coud not find Photo Pos Pro Image Editor at the site.

But WARNING on the free Photo Pos Lite and Photos Privacy Keeper Lite. It say it has WhenU on it. Is nice that it tells you about it.

Thanks, Wilson44512. I am going to try that one too. You never know when one program will have a combination of features that makes it better for one person than any other program. I appreciate all the feedback here. I hope to be able to assist others from time to time here, too.

Thanks, Wilson
Wilson44512, I did download and try Photofiltre and I was pretty impressed. The only thing I didn't see that I like is a "Feather" feature as part of the selection tools. Other than that, it was a very nice program. Thanks.
