Photoshop vs PaintShopPro, which one to get??
Hello,
I need a good graphic software and I have been contemplating buying either JASC Paint Shop Pro or Adobe Photoshop.
Has anyone tried both softwares and can recommend which one to get??

Well here in the UK Photoshop will cost you about £400 - £500 and paint shop pro £49 (special offer, half price, pc world ) Photoshop is the best out there but it is unfair trying to compare it with paint shop pro, which is an excellent programme for home users.
Do you mean 'Photoshop Elements' - a cut down version of the fully blown Photoshop?
You can download trial versions of both programmes if you do. Use them and choose for yourself which one you're comfortable with. There's not much to choose between them.

How about The Gimp @ www.gimp.org ? It's pretty close to Adobe Photoshop (£389 ) and it is FREE !

Smile Paint shop pro
Although I suggested The Gimp, mainly because it is free, I personally found it too complicated and advanced for my own use. I use Paint Shop Pro 7 and find it excellent doing every I want it to do. I downloaded it free - unfortunately that option no longer applies. There is of course now a newer version - Paint Shop Pro X. Anyway good luck with your search!

Paint Shop Pro
Further to my last thread you can use The Gimp with Windows, but it is a rather awkward two stage installation. If you want something reasonably advanced it might be worth going for.

Of coarse you can use Gimp on Windows.. and just go here to install. It's a two part download. See on the page below.. Just download the second one first ( The GTK+ 2 Runtime Environment (version 2.8.9, for Windows 2000 and newer; updated installer) then download the top one ( The GIMP for Windows (version 2.2.11). It is a little confusing to someone who's never used it before.. you can do this..People are here to assist you..

It really depends on your budget and needs. Photoshop (not elements) is very expensive and unless you're going to be doing this professionally is not required. The lesser Elements will do what you need if you're only using it for home use. Having said that you'll find that Paintshop offers more features than Elements. Personally I use Photoimpact from Ulead which is about the same price as Paintshop. The only purpose I could see for going with Elements is you might want to possibly get the full version in the future. It would be very easy to go from one version to the other.

I'll agree with that. I'm sure it's a fantastic program as far as features but I couldn't get past using the GUI. Too clutzy... That seems to be the norm for many free programs. I can point out two video programs that are fantastic and free but almost require a doctorate to run them.... You certainly can't complain about the price.

Adobe Photoshop indeed is far more superior software than Paint/ Jasc. GIMP can be an alternative only. It all depends upon your requirement, which means what do you require the software for. If required for Publishing Braochers I would suggest Coral, If required for web design I would recomend Photoshop.

Photoshop is the standard for sure for image enahncement and manipulation. I use a combination (depending upon the application and desired output) of CS2, and CorelDRAW! and Illustrator. All our expensive though.

Photoshop Elements 4.0 is the version that compares to PSPx .... and it's usually cheaper.
It has all the Important Editing tools found in the Proffessional (expensive) Photoshop CS2 version.
