video problem
I have a question concerning the videos that I send to my sister (or anyone else) that I took using my digital camera (Konica-Minolta) . They are usually only 15-20 second videos.

My sister says that when my videos come in she can't view them at work or at home...said they are coming to her as bitmap...and I don't know why or how to correct it.

When I name them I always put .MOV after the name I give it.

..and a friend that gets some from me won't open, it says "whitepage" ..Am I doing something wrong...or do they need to change their settings?

My sister never had trouble opening my videos before...but I don't know what changed or how.

Thanks.

First, video files are generally very large and most mail servers are going to bounce the attachments or the entire e-mail if it exceeds that limit. Anywhere from 2MB to 10MB. Even a 10 or 15 second clip is probably going to exceed that but you'll have to look. Generally I try and keep attachments under 2MB. You can test it to see if the attachment is getting bounced by noting the file size in the e-mail and tell the recipient to check it to make sure it's the same size. If they cannot receive attachments of that size you'll need to upload the file to a server so they can download it from there. Most ISP's provide a small amount of web space for doing this, you can check with yours. You can also upload it to a free service like www.yousendit.com .

Second, by naming it .mov your implying it's a .mov file which is a propietary Apple video file. If it is a .mov file that is fine and I'll assume that if it plays on your computer with that extension then it is correct but you may want to make sure. For the person viewing the .mov file they'll need Apple's quiktime installed or something else that will view .mov files. They cannot be played from a "out of the box" install of Windows. If they are .mov files your camera software probably installed the correct software for you if you had not already done so.

Quicktime can be dowloaded for free from Apple: http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html

Hi Wilson...thanks for the reply..I tried it like you said and sent it to myself and it worked fine... Still waiting to hear back from my sister after sending her one without he extension.....

What I don't understand is I when I first started sending the videos to my sister months ago, I always renamed them, and did give them the .mov extension...but just here lately she can't open or watch any of them...and the guy I was talking about I have just started sending him some about 3 weeks ago., but he never could get any of them to play.

again thanks,
sherri

Hi Coalman (I was born in Westmoreland Cty. Hosp. in PA)

Thanks for this info, this is something else I will work on. I did just notice that the video I sent to my sis and myself when I renamed it came up like this.... chipping.dat (7.25MB)
I didn't give it an extension, but it changed to .dat when I renamed it. Could the ze be on account of the fact that I have my camera set on the fine setting which gives me pics of 2272x1704?...

As I told Wilson, My sister never had a problem before (and I haven't changed anything) ...it is just something that has been happening here lately.....maybe she changed something on her computer....ya' reckon'?

I think she had real player or Quicktime, but now only has Win. Media player...

Thanks
sherri

hi

Do one thing. upload a video from your camera to computer using same settings used before. then check the extension of the file ( if they are not visible you can do that by going to tools menu in the window > folder option > view > checking " hide extension for known file type" check box. Now let us know what is the extension of the file .mov or anything else. by knowing the extension you can search in the net for the appropriet player.
