Best program for importing and organizing photos?
Hi all,

I user Camera Window on my Mac to import and organize photos. Recently I find I need to be using my PC running Windows XP. The Camera and Scanner wizard is fine for importing, creating a folder, etc.. but it is not comprehensive and then there is no real library or organization other than Explorer.

So what programs are you guys using? Also, is neat image worth the investment? It sounds like a great tool and I use PhotoShop so the idea of a PhotoShop plug in to reduce or eliminate noise is very appealing.

I use Adobe PhotoShop Elements 3.0 for organizing & editing. I know that there is ton of freeware programs out there but I choose PSE3 to keep track of all my photos.

You can go here for an overview Photo Shop Elements thise link is for PSE4 which is the latest & I think there is a try out link on the page.

If you deceide to get it, Walmart carries it a few bucks cheaper than advertised.

I prefer using the Windows file system and do all my organizing with Irfanview thumbnails. If you like a program that keeps track of your images you might try the free Picasa. It is now distributed by Google.

Neat Image is a great program. So are Noise Ninja and Noiseware. They are all available as Photoshop plug-ins. Your choice in Neat Image is determined by whether you work in 16 bit images. Home + is fine if you just work with 8 bit images.

Howdy and welcome

I use Photoshop CS2 and the browser that comes with it, along with Explorer... for what I need/do that's it... I see that Lightroom is now available in beta for Windows... I have seen a preview and will definitly give it a try...

As for noise...If the iso you shoot at, and the camera you use, produce excessive amounts of noise then Noise Ninja or Neat Image might help you... I don't use either
