Printing white text on existing photo
In Adobe Photo Shop CS2 trial version I uploaded a dark image from my pc and cropped out all but the black background and typed text inside it (let's call this finished image "the strip"), setting text color to white. I print it onto an existing photo. The problem is that the white text only shows up in the light colored areas of the existing photo. In the dark areas there is no text.

Can someone give me instructions on how to get printed text to show up on my existing photos. I have 30 photos I need to edit text into.

I have attached two pictures for you to see what I have already done. One is "the strip", the black background with white text that I am trying to print onto the existing photo and that I edited in Adobe Photo Shop CS2. The other picture is the photo I am trying to get the text onto.

In the picture of the drummer, to the top left of the symbol you will see the words Dark Life and to the right of the symbol you will see some more words. In the middle of the symbol the words are invisible. That is where the problem lies. I have tried different colors of text and different colors of background, to no avail. I have lightened up the photo of the drummer in order for you to see the words better.

If you need more info, let me know. I realize that I can scan the photo and edit the text on it that way, but as I said, I already have 30 photos already printed out that need text added.

Thank you for your time

That's because you are trying to do it all on the original layer. Where is a sample of the origunal image sans the text? You can also use different layer modes to make the text stand out against the existing background.

I attached the original image I used to upload into Photo Shop. I cropped all of it except some of the black background. Then I added in my text. I don't necessarily have to use this image. I just happened to have it uploaded, so I decided to use it.

I just want to know how to start all over again. Could you just instruct me as though I had never done it before? Actually, what exactly would you do if this was your project?

Thanks

It appears that you have already attempted to put the text into the image and I was looking for an image that was clean minus the editing. If you did this to the original jpg file and saved it is too late to change it back. Always work in layers ,and always keep a copy of the original.

Here is a quick one I did, but you can still see your original edit in the background.

Rockn:

That is beautiful. Perfect. But, I can DO that. What I want to do is make that "strip" you made with the text in it and print it onto an EXISTING photo, one that I had developed already. That is what I can't figure out how to do. When I print your "strip" onto the existing photo, the white text is invisible in the dark areas, for instance, in the symbol area.

That photo of the drummer is already printed out, 30 of them. 30 of them that I need to put that strip onto.

Can you tell me how to do that and have the white text appear in the dark areas?

Thanks

You say "existing photo". Am I correct in assuming that you are printing "on top of" an existing print? If so, it is impossible for an average ink jet or even lazer printer to print white. A few ribbon printers have an optional white ribbon and a few solvent printers may carry white ink. For normal printers: you can print dark color/ink onto a light image, but printing a light color/ink onto a dark image does not show. The best you can do is: (1) print labels and stick them onto the prints, (2) Redo the images with the text and print new ones, or (3) screen print the white text onto the images, but this option is costly.

You could also do text like this and watermark your images.

I think everyone is totally lost here. Watermarks? Layers? Photoshop? None of these things are going to help.

If I'm understanding what your asking, you have a physical photo that you want to add white text to. If that's the case, then sorry, but you can't do that. Your printer doesn't have white ink, so you can't put white on top of something that's already been printed. Your going to have to reprint the photo if you want to add text to it, unless you want to use a silver Sharpie or something and write it by hand.

I just got what he was trying to do last night. It can be done, but not without jumping through a lot of hoops to do it. You would be better off scanning or directly downloading a digital image, editing it in PS and then printing it again.
