Pictures Will Not Move to Recycle Bin
Hello all!

This is my first post, so please be nice!

I have used this site for help millions of times in the past, but this time I don't seem to be able to find an answer so I thought I'd post it myself.

For some reason, when I try to select and delete multiple pictures in the My Pictures folder, they don't move to the Recycle Bin they're just copied into the same My Pictures folder. So I end up with even more pictures than I started with, all with the prefix "Copy of [Image Name]".

I can delete one image at a time, but selecting more than one just copies them rather than deleting them!

(I am using Windows XP Home, by the way)

It's bizarre. Does anyone have any idea why it is doing this?

Thanks in advance,

Sarah

How are you selecting them?

select/highlite the first one then hold down the Ctrl key and move the mouse to the next one you wish to delete until it is highlited and so forth... then click file... then delete... and answer yes

Left click on the first picture -> HOLD IN CTRL -> Left click on all pictures/files you want to delete -> Once you're finished click the delete button ->

Hiya, thanks for your quick response!

We were actually using the shift key to select them all at once. It seems to work on other computers, just not this particular one.

So, out of curiosity, is there a setting which makes the shift key copy the selected images instead of deleting them?

Oh, and I forgot to mention, I actually get the "Are you sure you want to send these items to the Recycle Bin" message, but when I click yes the selected pictures are just copied in the same folder rather than moving to the bin.

when you hold the shift key does it select them all?

How about edit > select all... then file> delete

It selects all of the ones we click on, yeah. It does everything it's supposed to apart from deleting the images! It's quite weird. Like I said above, it even asks if I'm sure I want to delete, but when I say yes it ignores me and copies them instead.

I am guessing it's something simple, but it just has me baffled!

It does the same thing when we use the menu commands as well. They just don't want to be deleted these pictures. The only way we can do it is one at a time, and it's becoming tedious!

It happens occasionally to most anyone who
is trying to multiple select by holding the Ctrl
or Shift key while left clicking to select the
image files.

The copies are created when you fail to
completely release the mouse button before
you move the pointer to another file. If a group
of selected files is dragged...even the slightest
bit...releasing the mouse button will produce
copies of all the previously highlighted files.

hope that helps

Just out of curiosity... What happens if you try 3or4 pictures instead of the whole folder?
