Picture file too big
I have a new digital camera and increased the pixels on the camera and got a really cool upclose picture of of tiny wildflowers.........but, the problem is when I uploaded to the computer I have a picture that is 435 KB. Is there anyway to decrease the size without messing up the picture?? I would like to email it and it is just too big a file. I am really ignorant to what to do. Thanks ahead of time for any help given.

another option you have so you dont lose photo quality is to upload to www.photobucket.com or www.freewebs.com
register for a free account and then email the link to your friend

They can download it straight from there by right clicking it

I put in a compressed zipper file but did not solve. LOL I guess I will have to star over and get more educated before messing with settings in the camera without knowing exactly what I am doing.

I use photobucket and freewebs .. they have not lost one of my photos and it serves as a back up place to keep my photos safe

A file that size almost certainly came from the camera as a JPG. It is already compressed to some degree and it isn’t practical to compress it enough to get a normal 50k or so email size. You normally decrease the pixels when you email or post a photo.

Unless you have a 2Mp or less camera you have already reduced the image size and/or JPG quality in the camera when you took the photo. How much you can recompress the JPG is somewhat dependent on the quality the camera used.

Many people who aren’t into image editing use the Microsoft image reducer power toy. http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/d...powertoys.mspx Install it and you just have to right click on the image to reduce it for email.

Another approach is to use a good freeware viewer like Irfanview. www.irfanview.com Go Image > Resize/Resample and use one of the standard sizes. 800 X 600 is probably a good choice. Then when you save use around 60% for the JPG quality. Make sure to “Save as” so you don’t lose the original.
