I don’t use Digital Image Pro. Most image editors have similar functions – you just find stuff in different places.
Evidently every selection tool has its own dialog box in DIP. The first hit in Google had a tutorial for blurring the background using the edge finder for the selection. It says “Invert” is a choice in the “Edge Finder dialog box”.

All image editors have a way to invert a selection. Say you have a red ball in the photo and want the ball the only thing in color. It is easier to select the ball than to select everything else. But you don’t want to do anything to the ball, so you invert the selection so everything
but the ball is selected. Then convert to B&W and only the ball is left colored.
In your case you want to save everything you have selected. One way to do that is to remove everything that isn’t selected and save the image normally. So you invert the selection and hit the Delete key or however you delete stuff with DIP.
If you save as a JPG or TIFF you will save the blank space around your selection in the background color. If you just want the selection with everything else transparent you normally save as GIF or PNG as the file type. Image files have to be rectangular, but some file types let some parts remain invisible.
