Question Solved: Dropping quality/size of images
Hi

I was wondering if anyone knows of a simple way to change the quality of pictures down so as to change the size of the file, or if there's any programs that could do this for me. I have a 2.25MB .bmp file but I need the size to be 500KB or 1MB.

Thanks, Bartikky

If it is a photograph, try converting and saving it as a JPEG (.JPG extension) file. JPEG is a lossy compression program where you can control the amount of compression vs. picture quality.

If it is more of a graphic image with larger areas of solid color and a BMP pixel depth of 8 bits-per-pixel or less, try saving it as a GIF image. It will be compressed without any loss in quality.

I have never used it but a lot of people on TSG recommend Irfanview as a good program for converting many different image file formats to GIF or JPEG.
