Adobe Elements 5.0
I have an HP Pavilion computer and lots of memory and am running Vista. Have just loaded Adobe Elements 5.0 and have an Olympus 410 camera. I cannot load Camera Raw files. When I try I get a fatal error message, error code C0000005, address 31b5624. At the same time I get an Elements 5.0 Photo Downloader message: E410 connecting to device....... please wait. Nothing happens.

I disconnected NORTON. Any suggestions?

You don’t seem to be getting a lot of response so I’ll try.

It appears you are trying to use Elements to acquire your photos from your camera and put them on the computer. Few of us use any intermediate programs to acquire our photos and I doubt that any would open a large program like Elements for the purpose. Probably the reason for the lack of response.

First make sure the camera is PTP. With the camera connected to the computer and turned on look in My Computer or Windows Explorer to make sure it is showing as a drive. It could be listed as a “removable drive” or something similar. If it doesn’t make a drive letter you usually can’t use generalized software like Elements for the download. In that case Olympus should have provided the software you use to download.

If it is making a drive letter you can download directly from the camera to a folder. You should also be able to download through Elements. You might try a freeware like Irfanview or Picasa to see if they will download your photos. If they won’t there is a camera interface problem. If they will download your photos there is something amiss with Elements. You could try an uninstall and reinstall if you have all the updates installed.

If your camera is making a drive letter I suggest you try getting your photos directly from there. Open folders until you can see the individual files. “Select all” and “Copy”. Right click any folder and “Paste”. The images will download into that folder. You should then be able to work with the raw files in Elements.

Thank you for your comments. The problem that I have is loading photos in RAW format directly into Elements. I have photos on my camera, some in normal format and some in RAW. I can load them all into the Olympus camera software but cannot load the RAW ones into Elements. In other words, we cannot load the RAW pictures directly or indirectly into Elements although Elements recognizes the E410 camera. Anyway, thanks for your attempt at helping us and we'll keep trying. Hopefully we will eventually sort out the problem.

The Adobe Camera Raw 4.1 update shows added support for the E410. Dpreview says it works in Elements 5. http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop/cameraraw.html
