camcorder to computer problem
I have a JVC GR-D350U mini DV camcorder and I'm trying to transfer video to my Compaq Presario SR1616NX desktop computer with Windows XP. I know it has to be through the firewire connection and I have the right cable and everything but nothing happens when I connect my camcorder to my pc. I hooked it up exactly how the directions say but it doesn't help. I tried whatever it says in the help menu of my editing software but that's no good either. (The editing software I have is Sony Vegas Movie Studio 6.0) My computer just doesn't recognize the device at all. I hope someone out there who is reading this has a solution!!!

Turn off both the computer and cameera. Then put the camera in the VTR mode and then turn the computer. Open Vegas and try using the capture utiliy. If that doesn't work, go to my computer and see if the computer is seeing the camera.

That doesn't work. What's VTR mode, anyway? My camera can turn on in either of two modes-'play' and 'rec'. I tried both of them.

I'm having the exact same problem. I'm also wondering what VTR mode is. My camera is the same as the OP, only has play and rec.
