Question Help the Blind
I have been doing graphics for Braille textbooks for over 20 years. I have been using Canvas 9.0 for years but it has become very unreliable. I am looking for new software. my normal procedure is to scan from the textbooks. (my scanner will do Tiff, Pict and Jpeg) import into Canvas. Next I Reverse the image, Scale to fit the Braille page(11.5 x 11.0) then use the necessary line types, arrows, Hatch patterns etc. I have looked at a number of software programs but have not been able to find one to suit my needs without overkill. Importing seems to be lacking in the programs I have tried. I Don't do the Braille that is added by a Braillist at the Mn. St. Services For the Blind. I have three books to get ready for students this next school year, a Math book, a Chemistry book and a Map book.
Thanks for your attention.

Hmm..... Can't you go to your local community college? I know ours uses all kinds of stuff for the blind. I'm sure they could be a good reference, and I'm sure they would also give you alot of support.

Sorry I couldn't be any more of assistance. Good Luck

I think he starts threads around the net and forgets where he put them. Or gets an answer on another site and doesn’t bother to tell people to quit posting here. He made this post a couple weeks ago and evidently lost track of it – or doesn’t have the courtesy to acknowledge a reply. http://forums.techguy.org/digital-ph...ml#post4900436

I need a program (Mac sys 10.4) that allows me to Import images I have scanned from the textbook (Tiff Pict or Jpeg.) i need different lines, hatch patterns, Scaling etc. I have downloaded many but usually the problem is with the import or in the case of cad programs, overkill.. I'm not perfect but I do the best I can at 88. I have been doing this for over 20 yrs.
Thanks for your interest and God Bless.

I mean, what do you want to do with the scanned images (have you asked permission to use these images - even as a source image) - line art, grayscale, colour images?

Then what?
eg: Import to cad program and then...? Convert to vector? Export to.. ?
What format? Then what program - layout prog like Indesign or, god forbid, Quark?

Presently I import the images into Canvas 9.0- Reverse horizontal, Scale, and add needed lines ,hatch patterns and then print on Braille paper for tooling.( Spur wheels, apply pieces etc. These I then deliver to a Braillest at the Mn. state Services for the Blind. These images are scanned from the textbooks for the blind students. (Permission to do these books in Braille is always obtained from the publisher) Before the school year is over I will probably do over 1500 of these.
Thanks for your interest,
Del
