Solved: Camera Reccomendations
I currently own a Nikon Coolpix 5600. I love the camera. It has worked out VERY well for me. To give you the brief specifics of the camera it had a 5 Megapixels, 3x Opitcal zoom, and 16 scene modes. I enjoyed the scene modes because it had one for snow, sunsets, dusk, backlight, indoor, ect. As a weather buff that came in handy most of the time.

Sadly, the camera died the other day. I am interested in buying a new camera. I can't be without one. Not that I use it daily, I do enjoy it when I use it. I want one that is fairly cheap and only has what I need. I know my needs are quite simple. I don't need anything over 6 MP becuase most of my pictures are no bigger than printed as a full page and most are viewed on screen.

I do use my camera for weather events a lot. Such as snow and thunderstorms. And that camera always cooperated well in them. Any commendations? I was looking at the Nikon Coolpix L11 but I see it accepted SDHC cards.

I have quite a few SD cards and was hoping they wouldn't go to waste. Are SD cards still compatible with a camera like that?

I was also looking at the Nikon Coolpix L10 as well. Which was a little cheaper. I know my needs are quite simple compared to many. Any advice? I'd like to go this weekend to buy one.

I recently purchased a Samsung Digimax L85 that I am in loovee with. It's 8 MP but you can scale it all the way down to VGA. You might like it. I got it from woot.com for $140 which is a steal but I've seen it in the $200 and $300 range on Froogle and the like.

As a side note: My number one camera manufacturer has always been Fuji but the Fuji cameras I've had have used xd cards.

All the newer SD cameras will have SDHC compatibility. You can use your old SD cards with no problem.

The L11 isn’t in a class where you can find extensive reviews that report on things like shutter and focus lag, cycle times, low light focus, flash range etc. But I doubt you will do better in the $120 range that is sells in.

I was only considering the L11 because I felt like I didn't need much more. It wasn't nesecarily the price. It just seemed like I don't use too many of the other features. I use basic weather photography and simple family pictures.

Do I need much of anything else?

If you were happy with the S600 you will be happy with the L11. It has good photo quality and the features you use.

I wound up purchasing a Samsung S730 today for the same price. I hope I made a good choice. Thanks everyone for the input.
