Question photo framing online - to do or not to do?
I know that this is probably a question of personal preference, but I'd luv to hear some feedback. I'm wondering what the thoughts are of giving the appearance of matting & framing a photo in PS to place online. If done correctly as far as complimentary color matting & frame, does the framing take away or add to the photos appearance?

Lots of people do that and it looks fine to me. I just post the pictures but frames are nice sometimes if you don’t overdo them.

The downside is if you use the site for sharing with family and friends. They would have to crop out the frame before they could print them.

The only framing I like is a white or black frame, I just hate frames.

This freeware looks decent: http://www.dirfile.com/framing_station.htm

Lots of shareware: http://www.freedownloadscenter.com/B...-freeware.html

If you have an image editor there are tutorials for making your own for many editors. If you have an advanced editor like Photoshop, Elements or Paint Shop Pro there are free actions and scripts to do them automatically.

Before paying for shareware I would suggest picking up a CD-only version of Paint Shop Pro on Ebay. You can get version X for $20 delivered and XI for ten bucks more. It has automatic framing with a pretty good selection of frames. And there are tutorials for making your own frames and adding them to the frames you can choose.

I grabbed a photo and frame at random. One click and this is what I got. I’m not very good at PSP as I usually use Photoshop. But I’ve come to like it.
