Logo Transparency
Hello everyone. I am using Photoshop CS3 to create a logo for a project of mine. The logo was drawn and scanned against a white background. The only thing that is made up of this logo are solid black words. Is it possible to make the white background transparent, leaving the black words on the logo without making a path around the entire logo?

File > New and make a new file larger than your logo with a transparent background. Use the Move tool and drag your image into the file. Use the magic wand or Select > Color Range to select the white background. Hit the Delete key.

make a duplicate layer
hide the background layer
select the duplicate layer
using magic wand tool, set tolerance 30-40% and select white background
hold shift key and select any additional white areas inside of letters (O,D,B,etc)
after all is selected, hit delete
you should now have a transparent background
use file > save for web
choose gif format and check transparency
save

***be aware that certain text effects like glow and shadow do not take well to transparency

Howdy

I should think it would be quite easy to select either the black or white and paste to a transparent background... The selection tools available in CS3 are quite amazing... It will need to be saved in a format that supports transparency

Ok, slipe's tutorial worked out. It selected the logo BUT it also selected the border of the original image. How can I cut or copy just the logo?

FIXED: It was just my own fault, forgot to hide the background layer.
